The wax truth,

Saved Dreads Success Stories

Baba Fats that is HORRIBLE! What a nasty, awful thing to happen after you had put your trust in an "authority" and did what you thought you should do! Blaaa, that is just sick. Glad you started over and it has gone so much better for you the natural route. I did palm-rolling the first week or two, until my hands/fingers were SOOO tired and I even pulled a muscle doing it (omg, how is it possible to pull a muscle in your FINGER? LOL). Finally I said screw it and now all I do is separate and pray to god the beaver tails do not completely engulf my head.

letting go- how my loopy dreads point out neurosis

Dread Maintenance

You brilliant, precious soul! How eloquently you have put my own struggle into words this day! Thank you for sharing. I am so glad I didn't just go to a salon to have my locs done, as I would have missed out on this very important aspect of my journey. Hang in there, my dear!

wusup ppl of the world!

Introduce Yourself

Hello from the Great White North! For a young person you certainly have gone through a lot already! Congratulations on a year of sobriety - that is no small feat! And you have a son, too? Sweet! It's good to be a daddy. Be on he can look up to! Sounds like you have overcome a lot and will be able to give him good advice as he grows up.

Your dreads are great - 6 years old!!! Coolness.

Cheers

Dreading Methods

Yes, I would dare to say she is FREAKISHLY beautiful, and seems blissfully unaware! She has been blessed by mother nature, that is the truth! She seems like lots of fun, too. I enjoyed her video even though it wasn't in English!

Dreading Methods

Hi there! I used twist and rip method. Don't use wax whatever you do. For my ends, I put up with them being long & wispy for a month or so, then they dreaded more easily just continuing the T&R method.

Good luck and enjoy your journey! There is a great YT video by an absolutely BEAUTIFUL young lady (possibly from Denmark?) also with "Scandinavian hair" I think.

Cheers!

DESPERATELY NEED YOUR HELP>>>SERIOUS SITUATION> THANK YOU <3

Life Issues Facing Dreads

Sweetheart I am so sorry to hear that you are going through such a hard time right now. You are right, stress can kill us when it is prolonged. It is very good that your docs have finally been finding answers about your health, at least to point you in the right direction. Healing can be done using both naturopathic and allopathic (western) medicines. Combining these should help a great deal.

If you have not yet started meditating daily, do it. You likely have groups in your area that can help you get started if you're not familiar with it. Also pranayama very deep breathing can be a tremendous asset in obtaining greater health, physically and mentally.

If there are support groups available to you for either your daughter's condition or your own, now is the time to attend. You will find compassion, advice, and resources that you were not aware of.

I don't know what else to tell you, other than research and don't give up.

HUGS from the Great White North,

Janice

people in my school

Dreads in the Family

Yes, Adrian, you are right to remain above perpetrating any act of violence against another. I'm sure it has been helpful to read some of the situations others have endured in hs. One day you will be out of hs and leave the posers behind. Or at least you will have a much larger pool of potential friends to choose from who are REAL. As we age we realize that what's important is what makes us happy, not making others happy. If your dreads mean a great deal to you, keep them and do like SE says: Wear them proudly and with dignity. I'll bet there are students in your school who WISH they had the guts to be different, just like you!

And JD - omg, I just wanted to cry while reading what you went thru, luv. So sad and unfair. And you are such an interesting, insightful person! The lives we have lead to this point help to shape us into who we are today, even if it just means we decide "I am never parenting my kid that way," or "I will always stand up for myself from this day forward," etc. ((hugs)) from The Great White North, my friend.

touching your hair

Introduce Yourself

LOL! Mostly when I was pregnant it was old folks and women who wanted to give a wee pat of the belly. As for the Flirtatious Waitress... very tacky when you were there with your beloved and her parents, but what can you do? It must have been your sheer animal magnetism coming out, Baba. Try to keep a lid on it, will you? hee hee

touching your hair

Introduce Yourself

I never minded folks touching my preggy belly at all! Brings out the kindness in folk to see new life getting ready to enter this world. As for my dreads, no one has asked to touch them yet, and no one has touched them as far as I know. LOL@ "women clutching their purses and men say hello!" hahaha I find dreads very sexy on either gender. I actually get many second glances, longer stairs from women with my dreads. And I don't mind one little bit! *wink*

Congos... Going bad

Help! Save My Dreads

I feel for you. I am not enjoying my beaver tails AT ALL. They seem wrong, which of course they aren't if they are just part of the process. You have certainly inspired me to keep on top of separating my dreads! BTW, your hair is a GLORIOUS color! Good luck...
