dyeing dreads
Introduce Yourself
My daughter dyed her tips blue a year ago and since then has dyed all of her dreads back black to have them one color. However the dye doesn't get all of the hair dyed. Does anyone have suggestions on how to get uniform color without damaging her dreads and without going to a salon?
I haven't heard of this form of yoga, but will research the techniques. Thanks

Kundalini yoga and the associated meditations have been very valuable for me.
I suppose trial and error to find what suits me. I need to make the time to learn the techniques and apply the concepts to my life.
Thanks

Hi,
There are as many types of meditation as there are people. The trick is finding a method suits you personally. I took it up some 25yrs ago with a group of New Age friends. had a weekly guided meditation, for 20mins and discussed our feelings afterwards. Our homework was to listen to a taped copy of that meditation every night for the week, and really take in its message. If we had any unusual dreams we were also asked to note them down.
The very first one was to meditate on a glass of fizzy water, watching the bubbles rise & pop. We progressed to meditation that asked us questions like "Who am I?" We discussed & worked on our own and cam the conclusion that we were not our bodies, not our jobs, our homes, our cars, etc. As the weeks & years passed it led to most of us making drastic changes in our lives. I left my abusive ex and started again with just the clothes I stood up in. I had to do this in order not to lose my true self in all the materialistic clutter around me. And also loosing my sanity through his daily physical & verbal abuse. It was the best thing I ever did.
Some Buddhists meditate for hours on 'nothing'. They train themselves to completely empty their mind and anytime a thought appears they clear it out and go back to nothingness. Its not easy.
What ever method you choose, I wish you well. x
I would like to learn methods of meditation. I really need to learn to unwind from the madness of the world and be at peace with myself.
Although it seems like a good idea to use wax when you start your locs, in the long run it really is better to go completely natural. It may take longer but in the end looks and feels way better. Don't worry about what others think.
I did try leaving out the ACV a few times...didn't notice much difference in the amount of days it took for my loose hairs and scalp to become overly oily...usually two to three days. I started trying a solution of sea salt and water spray on the oily part. This seems okay, really tightens it up and helps a few extra days. I don't have a problem with moisture. Everytime I wash my hair I use tea tree, rosemary, and lavender oils in the baking soda wash. Thanks for the opinions...its always nice to hear about other dreadlocks hair issues and solutions.
This is the same question I have. I'm looking for a mixture or method to use on my oily scalp in between washing so I don't have to completely wash my locs all the time. I know it prevents all the loose hairs from completely locking in, but I don't know what to do. Hopefully someone out there understands and can recommend a method...Thanks

thanks for the advice about acv - i will stop using that. i have clearly said i have every intention of still cleaning the dreads - i imagine they would be nasty very quickly without washing them . i said i intended to do the bicarb deep clean as often as needed - and was looking for experience of how long that might be. But the thing id like to change is regularly washing my scalp in something that is removing the natural oils and therefore encouraging my body to produce more oil there. If you need un greasy roots for them to dread up then going through the oily stage until your hair self regulates might well work - as i said twice earlier i intend to use water and tea tree - and after the advice given here will also try a little bicarb - to keep my scalp healthy, but would like to be free of the cycle that has happened where i wash my dreads and a few days later my hair is greasy again and needs to be washed. i have a lifestyle that means i will not always be able to keep this routine up for longer periods of time and was looking for solutions. It would seem to me that my roots and my dreads themselves could easily be looked after and kept clean with 2 different methods, allowing me to go longer without cleaning or looking greasy. Maybe i didnt explain myself well enough. thanks again for advice
I had a similar issue with work, but my dreads had to be completely up, so I wore a bun. I didn't have any trouble getting my hair to knot at the roots. When not at work my dreads are out...sleep with them out...so no problems. I think what ever your work wants, either a hair tie or the headband shouldn't mess up your dreads, just keep it loose. Anyway, that's what has worked for me. Good Luck.
