Naturally occurring dreadlocks a concept difficult to grasp

General Talk

Idk. I've already faced the cultural brainwashed norms wrapped around birth, infant feeding and mainstream medicine (used to be a RN) so bring on the ones wrapped up around hair! There's a whole industry there just to figure out how to brainwash you into whatever way of thinking that will get you to do what they want you to do. Change takes time and persistence. But mostly time. My favorite quote of Shopenhauers "All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident." :)

Dreadlock Brushing

Dread Maintenance

You could probably use any brush for infants. They are really soft. Actually I think the one I have might be boar bristle. But I know they come in synthetic. Oils would probably distribute better with a natural one. :)

Lint and Paddles :/

General Questions

I kinda sewed a figure 8--or an infinity loop :) thru them and then pulled it tight and knotted it. After the hair knotted up I carefully snipped the thread and pulled it out :) Probably would've been just fine leaving it in though. The ones that were really knotted before sewing I just left sewed. :)

Lint and Paddles :/

General Questions

What about reigning them in with some thread or string? I don't have any paddles, but I have some out of control zigzag and looping going on. The loops that were getting uber wide and flat (probably destined to be paddles lol) I used a needle and thread and sewed them into something more appealing to me. They're still lumpy, but I'm glad I did it.I'm not sure about the lint. Is it from towels? Sheets? Check for a source I guess. If you can't pick it out you could henna it :)

General Talk

Don't you guys feel exhausted thinking so hard about what others think or don't think? Maybe I'm just getting old :P But I just don't give (too much of) a crap anymore. I just want to get through this life living as true as I can to my convictions, attempt to avoid assumptions and if I make them to try and assume the best. Not so much for their benefit as for my own. I don't live in the sticks of Alaska, and I don't live here because I hate people but because I love the people here. More often than not I meet people that live here for the same reasons as I do. It's easy to be close to nature even if you're not an outdoorsy kind of person. I'm "in the city" but not of the city. And no one here cares either way. :). You can dress how you like and it doesn't say much about who or how you are. The guy sitting next to you in a worn out hat, flannels, carharts and xtratuffs might be a surgeon or mechanic, pilot, stay at home dad or lawyer. You won't know by just looking. And around here we usually ask and are genuinely interested in your story.

can anyone help identify the guy pictured in the intro of "dreads" book?

Introduce Yourself

I understand wanting to know. It's why people are intrigued with people watching. People always have a story. :). Nothing wrong with being interested in people.

Dreads in the Family

I agree with Tyler that is messed up JD! :-/ My daughter is going through the whole HS experience right now. Same age as you Tyler. She's at a private boarding school though. The same one I went to. It is agony though having to watch her figure it out. She's got a good head on her shoulders, and has been able to be true to herself, but she feels like she's not part of the in group for sure. I think she'd hate it there anyway. She doesn't have much tolerance for drama, bs and fake people. I've given her the option of leaving and doing an accelerated program at university. I think she'd enjoy the people and classes more. But right now she's intent in conquering hs. PS you don't have to be in public school to know what it's like to be working through your late teens, right? I'm betting you have a good idea of what adrian's working through. Plus since you aren't being tortured daily you're a good level headed base for her to touch in with :) We all need that.

High school sucks. Well it can anyways if you are the target of someone else's ire. If I were you... I'd become good buddies with Tyler here ;) cuz he sounds like he's got a good head on his shoulders and is close to you in age (Tyler??? Is that right?) And I would you tube dankevie and watch her timeline if you haven't already. Here is her first.
Good luck :)
