In tribute

Introduce Yourself

My Grandma passed away a few hours ago, her last dying wish (she had a sense of humor) was for me to get a hair cut, she didnt like my dreads but was accepting. she was just an old school english lady.

In tribute i cut off one of my favorite ones.

id like to know if there is any way to perserve it and make it solid so it will never unravel

changing to freeform

Introduce Yourself

i changed from backcombing to 'natural surrender'. I have days where i wish i could just start them over properly, im about 3months in now. Dont get me wrong i love my dreads, i even have dreadlocks in my dreams now :) When you just let them go, they get loose, some fall apart completely. i have two like that, one that ive just left to do its own thing completely and the other i tnr. Because of the backcombing and rubber bands i have alot on my fringe with weak roots so i took SE's advice and let two congo together and its getting stronger.

sorry for the long ass post :)

just leave them be and do the BS/ACV wash, it will feel awesome and clean.

enjoy the process

Burning the tips...

General Questions

ive heard from a few people (obviously misinformed) that burning the ends of the dreads creates the rounded look.

Now dont worry im not even considering attemping anything like this im just wondering if anyone else has ever heard something as rediculous as that. i mean where does this stuff come from??

damn the work place

dreads jobs employment issues

s'all right, we all get this sort of thing, at work i had to convince everyone i was still washing. someone even thought you had to put peanut butter or toothpaste in your hair, i mean where the hell does this stuff even come from?

im singled out at work having to wear a hairnet (i work in a kitchen) because my hair is disgusting, which it isnt, its just dreaded, two of the people i work with would actually scream if my hair touched them.

Hey im new to this and i think ive gone wrong already

Introduce Yourself

so is there anything i can do, or am i going to lose a few dreads?? im hoping that just leaving them alone will allow the shorter hair around the roots to grow into them.

ive already pointed out a red hair found in food, from my superivisor no less, but nothing was done, i just wear it now to make a point.

Introduce Yourself

the sections are about 1inch square, i have very curly thick hair, execpt on the top apparently. i did a bit of clockwise rubbing for the first few weeks but stopped that because i was seeing the hair folacles in the 'dreaded' parts of my hair. i still finger roll, i wouldnt say agressivly at all, more im just playing with it really.

i had the rubber bands on most for the first 8 weeks, im almost at 11 weeks now.

trying to upload a pic now, just of my dreads or the front ones im worried about?

oh and i dunno if its related but i have to wear a hair-net now at work because i have "disgusting" dreadlocks, its not night at all but they are usually pulled back to get them in

ive read a few of your posts about the BS/ACV wash and im going to try it

Hey im new to this and i think ive gone wrong already

Introduce Yourself

im afraid i found this site too late but im hoping you can help me.

I wanted dreadlocks so i gre my hair from shaved for about 9 months then i shamefully fell into the DHHQ trap.

I went along with the sectioning and the backcoming (which im not sure is too bad) but i used alot of lock peppa and then knottyboy wax. almost instantly i regretted the wax and never used it again.

I use dhhq soap which seems to keep my hair clean. I also spray my dreads with a water mixture with peppermint, tea tree and rosemary oils, and have debated about putting sea salt in there.

however i have two dreads on the back of my head that have started to come apart, one completely. On my forhead the hair is starting to thin and the front 4-5 dread have visibly thin roots, typically with one stronger side of the roots. im scared that they are going to snap off, ive even had a horrible nightmare about it which scared me enough to seek help...

please, is there anything i can do.
