I give up...

Member Journals and Timelines

Wonderful post! I too thought this was going to be about you giving up on dreads, and what you wrote was such a lovely surprise! This bought a huge grin to my face :D

Best Dryer For Dreads

Dread Maintenance

Have you tried using a microfiber towel? They're awesome at wicking away a lot of moisture from dreads! I wring as much water as I can out of my dreads after washing and then wrap in a microfiber towel. I leave it until the towel is wet, and then alternate between air drying, using a hair dryer, occasionally wringing out extra water with a regular towel (only because I own just 1 microfiber). But yeah that regimen works pretty well for me, and I've got fairly long thick mature dreads. Unfortunately I don't think there's gonna be a faster way than what everyone has been posting. Good luck!! :)

Mature dreads itching, but no apparent cause??

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Yeah I guess I'm just going to have to keep an eye on it. Washing my hair seems to abate the itchiness but only for a day and then its back again, but I don't want to overwash and dry out my scalp (which would give me dandruff and no doubt make the itching worse!)

Yeah lice suck. I just used a no comb solution I got from the store. Seemed to work out, it was all natural oils and stuff so no nasties. Glad to hear you got rid of them!

Yeah I may have to try those. Thanks :)

Mature dreads itching, but no apparent cause??

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

100% sure. I caught lice about 2 1/2 years ago from a friend of the family's child, so I know what that feels like, and I'd be able to see dandruff if I had it. My maintenance routine has not changed for years. I wash twice a week with natural product, never leave my hair damp so it gets mildewy, don't use wax, don't have anyone maul my hair with crochet hooks or any of that and still live in the same house. Nothing has changed, that's why I am so confused.

Mature dreads itching, but no apparent cause??

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Ok, so here's the problem. I've had my dreads for almost 4 years now and recently they've started getting really itchy again. I'm sure many (if not all) of you would have experienced that time in the beginning stages of having dreads when your scalp is still adjusting and you scratched your scalp a lot? Thats almost kind of what it's like now. I haven't changed my cleansing routine, I haven't got dandruff and I can't understand why this is happening because for a long time they were just fine!
The only thing I can think of is maybe the weight of them is pulling on the root too tightly and causing discomfort or something?
Can anyone shed some light on this??
Oh, and no, before anyone suggests it, I don't have lice ;)

super clean dreads (safe for baby locks too)

Dread Maintenance

Haha how strange, I was just wondering if I could substitute white vinegar for acv. Is the cocoa butter necessary for this or will the white vinegar and oils work ok? I only ask as I have no money to purchase the extra ingredients with, and really want to do the rinse asap.

Also, the only oil I have is lavender, but I was wondering, if I made a super strength tea out of my dried herbs, and then drained it and added to the water, would that be cool?I vaguely remember rinsing my dreads with a herb tea that i'd made and leave to steep until it cooled. Felt lovely pouring it over my head, and smelt pretty nice too.

dread Wax: Lesson learned. Not even ONCE. *updated with promised photo*

Dread Maintenance

"i dont know how johnny clean sleeps at night on his candlesticks"

Hahaha. This made me laugh so hard. Oh my.

Yes I've never had any wax in my dreads ever. I've got a tub of that knotty boy crap someone gave me but that shit is never making it onto my locs. Yuck.

People are always like, asking me, oh, so what wax / how much wax / when do you wax type questions. Im like NONE NEVER NEVER EVER. Haha. Even a guy I know whos had dreads a couple of years asked me about wax. Im like, I don't use it, and he was like, what?

Needless to say, his dreads stink like shit. Mine dont. Hah.

Wax is bad yo. Lol. I wish more people knew that.
