Dread progress.

Introduce Yourself

I was doing that. And it didn't work still.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong. How should I be washing with it?

Dread progress.

Introduce Yourself

I quit using tea tree, because it wasn't working. Now I just use the shampoo bar like, once a week. But that isn't working either. I know it's not dandruff, but whatever it is, it's annoying and it makes me self conscious.

Dread progress.

Introduce Yourself

I'm about to finally hit my two year mark next week and I have made tremendous progress. I was having trouble dreading because my hair was so short and I was washing with the wrong products. But now, the hair is doing great.

My scalp on the other hand is worrying me. It still flakes and itches almost every day. I've tried the fancy shampoo bar that Soaring Eagle recommends, baking soda/ vinegar, tea tree oil, rosemary, tea tree oil shampoo, Selsun blue and even Head and Shoulders.

I honestly don't know what else to try. I would hate to undo so much progress over something that could possibly be fixed easily. Any other suggestions?

My hair wont dread

Nope. I'm careful not to do that. I don't understand how the flakes are permanent.

I know that you do not want flakes. I completely understand. Before my hair was dreaded I would brush my scalp veryvigorously each morning before I washed it and yes, I washed it every day. Now before I wash it, I gently take my nails and scratch my whole head to loosen up any dead skin. But the truth of the matter is when you have dreadlocks you will never be 100% flake free. Over time your scalp will adjust and you will have less flakes, but there is always gonna be some. Your hair is dark like mine so it is easier to see it. So you are gonna have to make the decision dreads with some flakes or no dreads. You have waited 19 months for something to happen so it seems to me that you really want to dread. You will notice the flakes a lot more than anyone else will. People won't be looking at a few dead skin cells ....they will be looking at your beautiful dreads.

oh and a side note...are you running your fingers through your hair when you wash? If so you are combing out any potential knots.

The one and only side effect of dandruff shampoo is in fact dandruff the selsun blue may be making your condition worse. going all natural with BS and ACV should clear it up.

I'd rather not have dreads, than have flakes. I'm so sick of them.

u might want no flakes at all but u may have to accept some if u want to dread

doesnt mean u have to accept it being extremely bad but u may have to be realistic use what works the best while still letting it dread

use those bars and nothing but those for the next 3 months dont expect there to be zero flakes from day 1 u may need to adjust..but they will work very well and yopu will dread fast

but if u see flakes..dont worry about them they arebt going to hurt ya at all

I've tried tea tree and rosemary and it didn't work. :/ I really don't want any flakes at all. I'll try the soap, but I'm not seeing any teatree soap/shampoo. I only see peppermint, spearmint and herbal.

use the treatree bar from dreadlockahampoo throw the selsun in the trash in fact u might want to do a clarifying shampoo to remove all the crap selsun left on u

most likely you dont have dandruff at all but dermatitis or something simular dandruff is way over diagnosed when its actualy a completely diferemt condition 90% of the time

teatree and rosemary will help most scalp conditions if used regularly selson and all anti dandruff shampoos rely on extremely toxic chemicals to control the symptoms of dandruff and/or psoriasis and/or dermatitis without treting the causes the oils will slowly but surely treat the condition and lesson it drasticly if not cure it completely

now to dread u may have to bite the bullet and accept some flakes u maybe trying to stay 100% flake free and use that crap and maybe acgeive it but u will never ever ever have dreads as long as u use it

if you want the dreads acept a lil flakiness use what controls it best while alowing you to dread

tht for me is the teatree rosemary bar from dreadlockshampoo or the patchouli 1 that works well too

stop using hot watrer also

u probly just have dry scalp nothing more

Which bar of soap? They have peppermint, herbal and eucalyptus.

Baking soda will cause more dandruff if you didn't follow up with an apple cider vinegar rinse. Did you follow up with ACV?

The shampoo is what is stopping your hair from dreading. Selsun Blue is extremely conditioning. I used it once several years back when I had run out of shampoo and it was all that was in the shower. My hair felt amazingly soft after using it.

You should try the tea tree and rosemary shampoo bar from http://shop.dreadlockshampoo.com .

No matter what though, as long as you are using that Selsun Blue, your hair is most likely not going to lock up.
