So.. I think for the first time in five months, I feel like I need a little morale booster. All I do is wash and separate... but this stage is not for the faint of heart. Please tell me this looks somewhat normal? There's a lot of loose hair throughout, and some on the ends, but otherwise they're just short fat mats that flatten when I sleep. I don't see much change, other than my roots feeling thinner which I know is also normal when the dreads thicken... here's a few pics. This is right after a wash.

I know I don't have to dilute it, I've always been kinda a weirdo and diluted my shampoo a little because I just love the way it suds ♀️ I am excited to try the bar though! It has been dreading so fast I almost don't believe it, but other than the wash and pull separating, I don't mess with it at all.. I'm really excited to see what's in store over the next 7 months on the way to their first birthday. I definitely have rough days but not having to worry about doing my hair, no harsh chemicals, straighteners etc, has probably been the most liberating experience of my life

I use Vicki's lockin up shampoo. I put some in a bottle and dilute it with water then squirt it on my scalp between the dreads so I can get the scalp really clean, then the suds kinda do the rest. I'm in love with the liquid, but I just ordered a tea tree bar to try out as well.

I wash once or twice a week with a shampoo that I get on Etsy, which I'm *obsesessed* with, and just separate them after... that's it! I have some underneath that are SO well formed it's unreal. It does weird me out a little that the thicker they get, the thinner it feels at the root, but it's nothing alarming. I get a lot of dirty looks, and once in a while a compliment. I am desperate to start gaining length down the road, but I know this is necessary, and means I'm progressing. I have days where I'm so in love, and days where I want to cry, but I'm committed and overall I've found this is changing me for the better

Oof... remember when I said I wanted to see how messy things can get? Well holy crap. 2 months old today... and my length is GONE. The constant frizz is a pain, but I feel like this is going really fast... andcI'm not sure if that's good or bad . Was just playing with beads in the photo, I didn't leave them in. "Separating" has become my main hobby in life... and it's hit that I'm really doing this ....

Thank you both for your responses!! Yeah it's definitely new for me, they seem to be really taking off, but what a ratnest I've been using the avalon organics lemon clarifying shampoo twice a week and it tightens up like CRAZY after a wash. Even the little baby hairs at the base of my neck are matting up, and all of the underneath sections are now loops and zigzags. I worry sometimes it's going too fast.... but I also think because it was so damaged and dry from constant chemical processing, that helped it really knot up. I will have to grab a few new pics, I can't believe it's been over 5 weeks already.. I don't miss brushing at all everyone on here has such amazing dreads, I'm trying to go through pics and inspire myself, especially for when I have a rough day.
