Thin, fine, slightly curly hair and my 4 month update

Member Journals and Timelines

Hello all! It's been an ENTIRE 4 months since I started my journey! Time is zipping by! I've lost a ridiculous amount of length (check my gallery and videos for progress updates)...I have little bitty dreads now. Some are super tight to the scalp already! Most of them are getting VERY solid.

First, I want to say: this journey has been amazing. Don't get me wrong, there are ups downs and all-arounds....but my oh my, I've learned so much about myself - good and bad - and I've grown. This journey has really helped me in so many ways....it is 100% worth it. It's beautiful.

Second, I want to discuss my experience with my hair type so far....because this is what I was looking for and couldn't find much info on. I have very fine hair, slightly curly, and not a whole lot of it - medication has caused some hair loss. As of 4 months, my dreads have been knotting VERY fast. I think my fine hair just intertwines easily. However, I have lost a ridiculous amount of length. I'm guessing it's because fine hair would take more hair to fill in the same amount of space. Anywho, I went from slightly below the shoulder to a short granny look 😂😂😂

Personally, I'm okay with it.  I know it will grown in time. I would've rather had a warning, because I've lost like 85% of my length....but it's all good for real. So. Cheers and let the journey continue. 💙

Lol I wear fun bandannas. I tie them loose. It keeps me covered on the days I really just don't want the attention.

My buddy palm-rolled his and his are like 3 years strong. I did it on a few that came undone in the beginning, just to keep them kinda in a section...but I only did it to the tips and only on a very select few. It was just enough to push those strands into knotting.

I second that.

Mine took to twist and rip really well. I'm almost to 3 months, will add an update here soon...but they're basically dreaded. I have finger-length dreadies all over.

That's crazy! Lol I won't mind them being bigger when they mature, but I'm afraid to let them get big right now cuz they'll get bigger and bigger....my concern (besides them holding water) is that my hair is very fine, and there's not a lot of it lol so it looks less scalpy when they're smaller. I did kinda regret doing it afterwards though, now that it's been a few days.....I ripped away a lot of progress....I had panicked though lmao those ones were so incredibly fat at the base. But that guy's in the picture look great!! Thanks for the inspiration! I'm curious to see what you mean though lol I'll be looking for the pics :)

I have to separate every day too.... I'm actually on vacation at the beach right now and I had to rip a few apart last night cuz they slipped by my separating and got HUGE....I was shocked at how much they had locked together already.....I actually did something to the tendon in my hand trying to separate it, no joke. It sounded like I ripped something when it happened 😳
