Dreadlocks Journey Emotional Support

I completely agree with @peaceful-passer , and I'd like to add that I wouldn't really respond. Just smile and keep going, unless you are the kind of person who is capable of dealing with other people's negativity, I wouldn't bother with any kind of reaction. I'd have to be some kind of amazingly patient monk to deal with that, because people can be quite dense and your time is better spend otherwise :) Just remind yourself that they are on their own journey and by simply being yourself and showing who you truly are, you are planting or even helping to grow the seeds of their own progress.

I hope that made sense :D

FemalePheromones:
Duskwood: I like to drink tea
This is the best thing I've ever read on this website.

I love tea bags.

Anyhow, I dyed my hair with henna and the top is now very very red. Because I dyed it black (with indigo) a year ago, the lower part of my hair is darker, but my boyfriend and both of my good friends both say I should stick with red, so that's what I'll do :) they say it suits me, makes me look more like a nature-loving witch :D

Tomorrow I plan on meditating under a waterfall, a kind of purification ritual, I will try and get some pictures of my hair then.

I have to say, some people seem to have the need to separate after a few months but I'm 4 months in and don't have that need at all... yet.

My roots are nice and unruly lately, I have a few more tangles now. Two days from now will be my four month mark. One random thing I enjoy is looking in the mirror and holding my hair up in one place and leave the rest to hang, it's like spiderwebs of hair everywhere! :D I haven't made any pictures yet, sorry about that, but I'm dyeing my hair black later this week (unless something comes up) and I will definitely make some pics after that :)

I was walking in the mountains the other day, I can imagine the people here in the Scottish Highlands would have had roots too, with all this wind! I could barely see the path sometimes because my hair would just be stuck in my face. But that's probably great for making everything even messier.

Another fun thing, sometimes I wake up with super messy hair, often everything to one side, but then all I have to do is shake my head for a minute like some wild beast and I have a perfect parting in the middle. My hair always looks good too, I used to struggle getting my hair to look 'good', brushing it in all sorts of different ways but now it's just; wake up, look good! Even when I don't shake my head, my hair seems to prefer being parted in the middle and it just goes back to that after a few hours of being active and such. Though sometimes if it's parted more to the left side, it tends to stay like that too, I prefer that personally, don't know why, it just looks nice.

Anyhow, I'll upload some pics soon. I'm going to explore some of the islands around here this week so I miiiiight make some pictures there as well, before I dye my hair, but I always forget to bring my camera =P

I also met someone who has amazing locks, I haven't had a chance to talk to him yet, but he sometimes works at a cafe where I like to drink tea so I'll try and ask him about his and if he grew them freeforming or what else :)

this happened to my dreadlocks

Help! Save My Dreads

Honestly, one of the best advice I've gotten on growing dreadlocks is 'it's about the journey, not the destination'. Try not to worry about how long it takes :) That said, most people seem to suggest not bothering your hair too much, shaking it out after a shower and then letting it dry naturally. I try and do that, I also pat my hair dry with a regular towel just to get the most of the water out. But yeah, I think once you try and enjoy the progress rather than the end result, it is a lot more enjoyable :) Just my two cents! :D

Not sure why people are talking about dyeing their hair in my progress thread but alright :D

I'm actually going to dye my hair black soon, just waiting for the indigo henna to arrive and I'll make some pictures after that. Though it might take a while, maybe I'll make some pics tomorrow already because yesterday was my 3 month mark so it would be cool to have some pictures ASAP.

I have a nice little tangle in the back that I'm very proud of so I'll start by showing off tomorrow ;)

I don't see a problem with dyeing hair by the way, if grandpa earth gave us some plants to do it with, might as well play around with it. Apparently grey/white hairs will turn blue or green when dyed with indigo. I've been considering waiting to turn completely grey and then dye it with indigo to look super funky XD but I'd love to look like a black cat right now, so that's what I'm going for.

Also, still have quite some problems with dry skin / itchiness, it comes and goes but it's really annoying.

Dandruff / itchy and flakey scalp

Dread Maintenance

Liquid, maybe I should try not to rubbing it in :P

It would be kinda wasteful to get a bar now since I have 3 bottles of it. But maybe I'll reconsider if it's still itchy next month.

I used mostly rosemary tea before, together with green tea, it worked wonders, but I don't have the option to do that right now either >.<"

Dandruff / itchy and flakey scalp

Dread Maintenance

Hey all,

I have been using Vicki's dreadlock shampoo for about 2 months now and it's great except I now seem to have dandruff again. I've always had a problem with itchy, flakey scalp and I 'fixed' it by not using any shampoo. For 2 years I was mostly free from itchiness (I washed my hair with strong teas).

I never wash my hair with hot water, but not usually with real cold water either, just cool. I plan on taking cold showers but right now it's not really an option for me. I was my hair about 3 times a week, but only use the shampoo on two of three days.

Any advice is appreciated :)

Anyone used hena?

Dread Products

Henna is totally fine if you get pure, organic henna. I dyed my hair black using henna first, then indigo, last year and it was jut perfect :) Maybe ask at a local natural shop or just look around online, there seem to be plenty of different brands around. Find a brand who are passionate about the purity of their stuff.

I'm going to dye my own hair again soon! :)

The vegan diet and myself

Dreads and Diets

I usually call myself a 'pure vegetarian' because I don't like the vegan 'label', but it's the same thing. I don't eat meat because I honestly simply believe that it's evil. That's why I prefer to stay away from it when I can as well, right now I live in a home where people sometimes eat meat and when I see it around it disturbs me, because it's part of the dead body of a previously living being who's life was taken away by force. Other animal products don't bother me as much so you can stuff your face with cheese right in front of me if you feel like it :P But yes, it's very much a spiritual thing for me as much as it is an emotional thing I suppose. I also know that it is the healthiest way of living and it seems to be the most natural too =) I do feel bad for people who eat meat, because I'm afraid of what it does to your core being, or your soul, whatever you want to call it. Eating the remains of other living beings can't be good for your spiritual health, so I'm always hoping to change people's minds. But I don't like confrontation or aggression and sadly there are very few people who are willing to talk about these dietary choices with an open mind without being aggressively confrontational. On that note, my own family completely ignores me whenever I try and nudge them in the right direction and I've only been doing that for THEIR sake (as well as my own, because I want them to be healthy and live a long life so I can keep spending time with them), I never even bring up the animal rights thing even though that is almost more important to me because my family are just two handfuls of people, but those few people, with their diet, cause many many more animals to be killed for their food (with half of it often being thrown away into the garbage).

Okay so this post became much more than intended :D sorry bout that! All I wanted to do was be all like; yo, I'm a veggie too.

I'm 'online' again :) will make some new pics soon, can't now because I've actually been sick for a week :( haven't been seriously sick in years, now all of the sudden I'm very sick for a long time. Maybe it's the move, I don't know, but I'll get to it once I feel good again!
