Starting over

Dread Maintenance

A couple of months ago I made a post asking about the best way to go from interlock//crochet to free-form. For the past few months I've been doing wash and go with minimal almost no twisting. While its been alright it seems that the interlocked strands are giving me some issues. Mainly I cut two of the locks that were interlocked and started growing them out. I've noticed the regrowth that wasn't tied to an interlock strand grew faster and longer. It could be all in my mind but I'm wondering if that is a possibility?

Edit -

Not sure if I'm in the right form or not. Figured maintenance would go hand in hand with the changing of my hair like this lol

Help! Save My Dreads

Okay I cut off two though myself just to see what my wife and I would be dealing with. I just cut where the interlock was and the new growth began. My god I have to say I forgot how hard and firm those locs were. I still have one because I was amazed between the interlock and the gels it was pretty firm yet a few strands that were kind of gel but mostly palm rolled were way softer. I think I have about 1/2 an inch or little over that already in new growth. My hair grows waaaay too fast. So I've just been washing it as if I'm doing the free form now and suppose once it gets a bit longer to where you can easily tell the difference we will just cut them with scissors.

I think I am going to shave my hair tomorrow at least enough to take it out where the interlock was taken place. That will leave me with about an inch, inch and a half. I will start the free form the more I research/read the more this is what I want to do lol

or should I just shave my head as much as possible/ completely?

This is what my stylist used called loc a fella butter

https://www.amazon.com/Razac-Haircare-Loc-fella-Twist/dp/B000ALIL82

doesn't look as organic as what the wife used when I thought I needed it at home.

She used https://shop.naturallycurly.com/lusters-scurl-free-flow-twist-lock-gel-9-5-oz/# and it doesn't seem as bad by the ingredients it's more natural than what the stylist used but either way butter and gel. Which I don't know if it makes any difference. I'm assuming just a bit of dawn, rub and then use a fine tooth comb or a wide one (similar to but not a pick?)

Okay I think I also found an older topic when someone asked the same thing. I do have some braggs apple cider vinegar as well. I think I saw your response on quora about that. Would that be viable or just stick with the Dawn Original?

So some of my locs still feel a bit hard ( I'm assuming from the gel ) they are softer but you can still tell. Will the conditioner get that out or should I get the Olive Oil?

Help! Save My Dreads

Good thing I went to the store today and picked up some. Ah that's understandable known a few people in my life that would do the same thing and each had their own reasons for doing so which I respect. Well guess I shall be trying to undo this interlocking hopefully I can get a good portion done tonight. Now do I blowdry my hair as well when I'm all done? I know the loctitian told me to do that so wondering if I should. Also can I utilize leave in conditioner that I got as well?

I will try that thank you even though I just washed yesterday would it be possible to do that today? Or should I wait a couple of days?  Again thank you for all your assistance. Also some strands feel kind of hard I'm assuming the conditioner will take care of that?

you can keep in mind some people get them out in a day others take days even up to 2 weeks to get them out (but people can take out 10 year old dreads)

you are not likely to get them all out today .. just take olive oil on a glove keep rubbing it into 1 dread as you work on that 1

if you get to a spot that your getting nowhere … dip it in squeeze it in and start on another dread letting that 1 soften and loosen up

the hard spots might need soaking overnight

I'm assuming regular kitchen Olive oil I hope? I don't know if we have any but I know we have a ton of conditioner.

Oh wow and well not just her looks but her hair is just gorgeous every time. I'm sure it's always prepped and ready for a photo shoot but I really adore the way her locs are. Yeah just from the shape and everything they are free form. Looking at other locs that are similar seem to be freeform or semi. The way they are the way I wanted to get my locs.

only 1 photo  the way they  were tied up looked slightly stiff like maybe they were crocheted once  omg her hair was gorgous before locking too

well you know when I was with (can't say who) wasn't her looks I even remembered it was everything else when I was with her though she was .. well purposely dressing down, being lil incognito

knew shed been with someone famous but knew nothing of her work till she had to leave for a photoshoot

but omg yes her hair (your hair crush) that was amazing from start to finish

sooo many freeformers have absolutely amazing locks

locs the typo.. just lack the personality the  individuality  somehow that k is something missing from them..

Exactly the free form and the way the locs look are mesmerizing and makes you want locs heh. I think that's what got me down that trend that and Bob Marley as well. just it was one of those things where when you live under your parents roof you can't get hair like that but being out on my own figured it was time to start.

That's kind of interesting you didn't know being incognito guess she wanted to be seen as an individual and not just from the shoots that she has done which is amazing. Don't hear that all too often in this day and age really.
