New to dreads and I need guidance.

General Questions

I agree with Soaring Eagle and the others, mix and match for the win!!! Like Tara C, i dont know what my count is anymore, i keep finding little babies all over the place, then the next time i check they are full blooded dreads!

Silly bar soap question

Dread Products

Hi Adrian,

Im a user of cake soaps for my dreads (for about 9 years or so now) and to be honest i didnt know either!!! However for me, i find the best way to get a good lather and coverage is to wet my dreads (which takes a while these days lol) then rub the cake of soap onto the top of my head to start, then use fingers to work it through the roots and scalp at the top of my head, then throw all of my dreads to the left, and do the same on the left hand side, then the same with the right...i must admit i struggle to get the back done, as i havent separated them at the back for a while, so i tend to use fingers to transfer the soap to the back. Once the scalp is done, i give a light rub of soap to the length of my dreads, rub, then rinse.....and rinse......and rinse.....you get the idea :)

Maintenence for the tips of your Dreads?

Dread Maintenance

Ok guys heres the sutuation -

I have fairly matuer dreads (over 10 years old) and in the main they are tight, thick and lovely :)

I do almost nothing to them, and never have, i dont use products, wax, or anything apart from the occasional wash with a nice low residue soap(citrus and tea tree)

However the one problem i have is that the thin badly towards the tip, and start to almost unravelback towards my scalp. They are getting on for 20 inches long, but the last 3-4 inches are suffering from this.

Any suggestions on how to seal the ends so they cant unravell? on my old set i used a fairly solid wax on the ends, which seemed to work well, but im loath to put wax in my babies!!

The vasaline method works great, but on shorter dreads is mor effective. Dont do it every 3 days, smother the lot and bag it/hat it, leave it till you cant stand it no more. Even lice need to breathe, and its hard to do that when your smothered in vasaline!!!
