Should I Be Concerned???

General Questions

Enlighten.Torus:

Are these twists in my hair going to be OK?!?

I used the TnR method and was planning to crochet around the dreads, but have decided to just neglect them from here on out.  After getting some pretty negative feedback I'm crazy concerned that the twists won't dread.

Is there anything I can do that doesn't involve combing them out and starting over?

They will lock up, just give it time and make sure to rinse will with water on a daily basis!

I did twist and rip on my first set of dreads all by myself, it took them about a whole entire year to really get the look and feel of real rastas and lock up a bit, after a few months I even twisted threads around each and every one of them and left the threads on for 2 months to help them lock up.

Looking back I think the problem during that first year was that I was super afraid to get my har wet or wash my hair, because I thought it would lengthen the whole process. Now I know, with my new set of dreads, that rinsing on a daily basis not only helps them lock up faster, it also keeps a healthy scalp and a healthy scalp will give you healthy rastas, and also over all just make you feel better and take away dandruff, itches and scalp gunk.

It's funny, during the 3-4 years I had my first set of dreadlocks I did not get them wet and didn't wash with shampoo either. Now i'm rinsing with water daily and even with shampoo once per week and it is so much better.

hmm its funny, i met them (cranberries) when they wee playing at a coffeehouse in philly. they had a tp jar ot and at the time i was making jewelry (selling it on the street this was before etsy.. and before havig the intenet)

so i made them each a ring and dropped it in the tip jar.. just a month later strted hearing their music coming from pasing cars

it was just surreal going from giving the hand made tips, to them becoming stars like a month later

Awsum story bro, when was this? I left the USA during 1997, I miss the states, miss the snow, miss the language. I am an American born citizen so I probably will come back some time, I hope so at least.

New pics, about 14 weeks old dreads, I've stopped worrying about the roots and just let them be for the past 2 weeks. Rinse daily with water, shampoo once or twice per week and I like to oil them a little with grape seed oil every morning so they don't dry up too much (for moisture). The itches are totally gone! Not sure why, maybe the daily rinsing, or weekly shampoo or the grape seed oil, or maybe Jesus? Dunno, but wow, so happy the itching is gone. Also I have absolutely Zero dandruff and Zero scalp build up!

EVERYDAY NORMAL MINI ITCH

General Questions

Just spray 1 little spray of regular water where the itch is, it will go away, works like magic.

They are a bit stiff but it doesn't bother me. They will get less stiff in time with daily rinsing.
I actually just moisturized with aloe Vera gel this morning, left it in for 20 minutes and rinsed with my shower.
I'm just gonna mostly let them do their thing for the next few months and rinse / moisturize daily.
I'm not certain about the wax yet, I am pretty certain that I might just put a small amount on the tips / ends  (about 2 mm) of each Rasta so they don't undread after I rinse each time.
Playing with the tips all the time with my fingers to keep them dreaded is too much of a pain.

Too much sebum/ scalp grease.

Help! Save My Dreads

Try rinsing well with water in the shower each day, does wonders, cleared up my dandruff and everything.

At the beginning I was afraid it would be bad for the dreads but they actually really like getting soaked with water on a daily basis, it helps them dread up better.

Should I Convert To Another Soap/Method?

Dread Products

I just rinse my hair really well every day in the shower, so it stays clean.

Although I still do a weekly shampoo, just to feel extra clean.

Question about drying

Dreading Methods

☮ soaring eagle ॐ:

during warmer months i toss mine out the car window on a drive and that works wonders (and gets a few stares haha.. oh and  gives anyone in the back seat with the windows open a proper flogging haha)

Great idea! If my dreads get as long as yours I will make sure to try this one day.

I just shake my head back and forth a couple times like people at metal concerts do and then air dry.

Although this is not the best thing in the world to do if you have back or neck pain!!!

But in my personal experience sun drying at the beach is better it also leaves the dreads looking really nice.

I also sometimes skip the metal band trick and just wrap a towel for 10-20 minutes, then air dry.

The crazy thing is that my last set of dreads that I had for 3 years, I didn't let them get wet and didn't rinse my hair EVER, like not even once the whole 3 years.

Now I rinse daily, I think healthy dreads and washed dreads and a healthy scalp is the way to go...

Take it EZ
