New dreadhead

Introduce Yourself

NO ANIMOSITY!!!! Disclaimer lol this popped into my head and it made me chuckle....

Crocheted dreads are like Chinese foot binding. Still a foot, just not quite right...

Lmao sorry I know that’ll probably not be taken as humorously as I found it but hey it’s all good! Hair doesn’t stop carrying it energy even agter being broken/cut/ whatever. That energy carries!! Why people used to give locks of hair to their loved ones, to literally send their energy and essence with them!

New dreadhead

Introduce Yourself

To each their own. However there is a difference and the end product is not the same. Some more passionately point to it while others offer the knowledge but are fine to just let you have your beliefs. It’s how people are; we’re not just alike lol.

Having crocheted my freeform dreads- only 4- and then brushing out my dreads and NOT cutting my hair. The ones I used the hook on were initially pokey and pulled at my scalp but got better with time. When I brushed them out- I lost clumps of hair from the crocheted dreads as compared to few hairs that’d have just fallen out had my hair been brushed...

This is a spiritual calling to me to not cut my hairs- to not detach myself. There is a difference in dreads for looks and dreads that have developed over a spiritual journey. We care for our hair and bodies in a natural way.

white buildup inside my dreads

Dread Maintenance

Just wait for the dread shampoo. It works so well. The activated charcoal cleans out all the lint and the scented ones leave no residue

Such thing as too small of a section?

Dread Maintenance

My sons are naturally small like that. It’s not something to worry about. I’ve brushed out one very thick dread that was two at the base. Thinner is more comfortable probably. I can’t use a pillow anymore lol. Thinking a tam will make sleep more comfortable for now anyways lol!

Here we go! *natural *

Yes, it is par for the course with allowing your hair to lock. The changes are never ending, especially the first 2 years from what I have gathered so far. You’ll feel more excited when you suddenly realize it has grown and taken on more definite shape. The time now is a time of letting go, letting go of control, letting go of fear, letting go of judgements and criticisms. There is a reason this is a journey 👐
You’re doing great, keep at it!

Cultural Appropriation blah blah blah

General Talk

Hair left to its own devices will dread. First known dreads were on monks in Asian. Egyptians wore dreads. Vikings wore dreads.

My sister has told me the same... so when a person with kinky hair straightens it, what is that? - There’s a history to African hair styles stemming from old ways...  Respect is a two way street. Dignity and self love go further and are not dependent on anyone but ourselves.

ITS HAIR AND HAIR HOLDS ENERGY. HAIR IS AN EXTENSION OF OUR NERVOUS SYSTEM AND BY KEEPING IT WE CAN HOLD GREATER VIBRATIONS AND EXPAND.

Love without discrimination is the only answer ✌️❤️

LOVING them more than ever, so fresh and happy ❤️ It’s been soooo hot here (over 100 most days) I’ve been keeping them up a lot in the afternoons with this awesome hair band my daughter made me it fits my hairs so perfect! With big hair this is something I’ve come to really appreciate !!!! Little babie dreads are doing well as well, they usually hang out with me while the others get tucked away... lmao.

Congrats on taking charge of life- things can be so overwhelming sometimes, one moment at a time and lots of grace (good advice I received recently from a new friend!) ✌️
