having anxiety about shrinkage

General Talk

I'm having so much anxiety right now because my dreads are getting shorter... My dreads are now 3 months old and they have got very short, and I don't think its only because of them tightening, my hair has been breaking in the process of dreading them and re-dreading them... So I know they will shrink more and it scares me. I don't like short hair on me. One thing more that bothers me is that I have much shorter hair on the back, and they're still kinda soft, so I know they will shrink more. My hair naturally grows really slow... So that kinda sucks. I don't know, I just had to tell about this to someone.

too big dreads? your opinion?

Help! Save My Dreads

These are two months old dreads, are they too big? I have 36 dreads, is that normal number to have dreads? ALSO sorry if this topic doesn't belong in this category

slow process... am i doing something wrong?

Dread Maintenance

☮ soaring eagle ॐ:

why would you ever use a flat iron on dreads? but any dreads that look neat and tight in 2 months must be severely damaged and actually the actual dreading process is severely delayed when you rush things

dreads take a year to get tight and mature

☮ soaring eagle ॐ:

the crochet hooks what i referred to that will drastically slow dreading

but why use a straightener that's no good! that's not going to help anything at all ..just the opposite

sop using that and they will progress nicely

but the crochet hiook tends to delay dreading by 6 months and take 3 years to recover from just 1 single use..if they are tight

yeah my hair is naturally wavy/curly so my soft dreads get kinda wavy and I think it doesn't rly look good, but I know I have to stop using straightener because it doesn't do any good to my hair. I haven't used crochet hook on all of my dreads, I have few kinda tight dreads. Do you think I should take them out and make them dreads again?

Dread Maintenance

AlienEmotion:

Hmmm I don't know what flat iron is but judging from this pic I'd say your progress is very fast for 2 months. I've started 3 months ago and I only have 2 real knots, everything else are just sections with no real knots yet. Are those natural or t&r?

I'm no expert but I'd say neglect normally takes more than 3 months for your hair to start looking somewhat dready at all...

Sorry, i meant i straightener. No these are not neglect dreads, I used twist & rip method. And I also have used crochet hook to my dreads to look neat, but not anymore

Is it normal them to still look like this after 2 months? I have watched these dreadlock timelines and their dreads look neat and beautiful around 2 to 3 months. I don't really maintain my dreads, I only use flat iron everyday.

1 month old dreads and bald spot

Help! Save My Dreads

☮ soaring eagle ॐ:

you presectioned in rather big sections in a fairly rigid pattern right? that's what caused that

down the line new dreads will fill in the gaps caused by the pattern and size of the sections

Oh my dreads are just flat maybe that's why they look so big. 😊 but I'm good to hear that! Thanks

Help! Save My Dreads

I have pretty big bald spot between "dreads"... Is it going to get better or should I get rid of my dreads?
