5 years natural neglect

Awesome, looks beautiful. I look forward to my hair to stop shrinking and start growing. I'm at 20 months now.

About using oils on your dreads

Dread Maintenance

My locks are. 1.5 years, I use dolly locks conditioning oil. Before I got that I would wet my hands and drip a few drops of EO and rub it all over my ends.

Organic dreadlock soap help needed

Dread Products

I agree to vicki's dreadlock shampoo. Perhaps a deep cleansing soak with BS/ACV would be good first if they are really in need of cleaning

Question on Roots

Dread Maintenance

I would never consider using BS/ACV as a regular washing solution because IMO it does cause damage. However, I did use it as a deep cleanse where I soaked my hair fully submerged for about 30 minutes at 6 months, and then rinse, rinse, rinse. I plan to do it again after summer because of the swimming in pools, oceans, and rivers, ect. Try tea tree oil on your scalp to help your roots. I put a few drops on my finger tips then massage my scalp all over. Helps with itchiness, oily scalp, dandruff and more.

My knowledge is only from my research and my own experiences for the past year.

Question on Roots

Dread Maintenance

I recommend a deep cleanse. Try parting your hair in different ways daily to close up the part

Should I stick with my neglect method or switch to crochet?

General Questions

Your locks are looking beautiful. I used a crochet hook for a few days until I broke it at about 6 months. It helped, a bit. I was afraid I would damage them so I'm glad it broke. What I can recommend is getting locking gel from Dreadlockshampoo.com that will help shape them and hold the shape when you palm roll. Also you can use beads and wraps to help shape some of the bumps and loops
