Dread Maintenance

I've not been active here for quite some time because I haven't felt the need to really ask about anything, but now that it's been a year since the beggining of my journey I have some questions again.

First of all, the progress is indeed very slow, most of the people I interact with don't even notice that I'm aiming towards locks, or they just look at me as a guy with a super messy hair. Ok don't really care about others perception that much anymore so that's not really an issue.

I think that it will take at least another year for my hair to look "properly" dreaded and I'm fine with that, it's just really really slow. I'm using Vicki's shampoo, it cleans my hair great. It just seems that my hair gets a bit less dread-like after washing it. For example I was on vacation recently, swimming in the sea every day and my hair became much more like dreads in those 10 days, but after washing it seems like sections don't hold together as tight as before. Well I'm not talking about real dreads, but I only have perhaps 5 of those, everything else are just sections that hold together more or less tightly.

I don't feel like I should already switch to bars and I'm currently at my last bottle of shampoo (ordered 5 bottles last year). So yes I do feel like I'll need another 5 bottles probably in order to get most of my hair dreaded. I attached a couple photos, is my progress extra slow or not?

Another question: I have dandruff. It's not horrible, but it gets visible in the middle section of my head. My hair is also falling out, well this is again probably normal, I don't think I loose more than some normal ammount, but the thing is it gets stuck in dreads and what happens is I get those small white dots (hair roots) that stick out of my dreads lol. I always pull them out and it requires quite some force sometimes.

Third "issue": My hair gets very curly at the ends, so a couple dreads formed which look very strange. I get that big "ball" at the end of the dread where the hair section was very curly. It looks funny and not in a good way lol, the last pic represents this.

Perhaps a little of topic, but what about nails? I have the same philosophy I only cut them when they really start bothering me, perhaps that could sound strange to some but I love to have long nails also if possible. I mean I'm not mentally attached to them it's the same as with facial hair. I trim all those things when they get really long and don't bother with it too much. It oddly seems that all hair, nails etc. are a part of me and I feel stronger/more confident if they're not missing hehe.

As far as jobs and career choices we all know it's always gonna be hard for us out there. Yea there are laws etc. but in reality you're always going to be judged and even turned down for some jobs. Of course they won't tell u the reason. We chose that lifestyle and we have to bear the consequnces of this still extremely primitive society almost in the year 2017. I'd even say in a lot of aspects it's more primitive now than it was in certain times of the past.

In America there's probably a bit easier cause a larger % of pupulation, it's way more racially diverse etc. Where I live literally nobody have dreads and they sometimes look at me as a circus animal (even tho only 3 months in the proccess yet). I have to tie my hair for at least 4 hours at work, but luckily I untie it again when I'm alone (I do this type of work I'm alone for let's say 4 hours and other 4 I'm not). People are bothered cause of my looks, they mock me that I look like Jesus or some silly stuff like this would be a bad thing. I don't care it's just not easy to manuever through it on a daily basis. Of course some other people also love it, but those are pretty rare.

As far as job goes I'd advise u to try and keep your beard a little trimmed and not go all out with it. Also don't do piercings and tattoos/big holes in ears etc. I don't judge anyone based on their appearence but majority of people will. I'd say if u have dreads and u do tie them sometimes and a beard that's not extremely long then u have better options. But if u go all out with beard plus piercings/tattoos then this could eventually become o problem on a job market.

Yea I know this is extremely wrong and sad in my opinion. It's a fact that society wants everyone to act and look like robots, just look at the politicians for example. All looking (and acting) like clones.

It all comes down to ur personal preference. I don't judge anyone, but I also don't like to be judged by others. My personal preference as far as facial hair goes is to leave it fairly natural, but I could never go all out natural in means of just not shaving anything at all. If that's your thing fine, but I do shave or just trim some of my facial hair from time to time (usually not more often than once a month tho). I have a hard time letting my moustache to grow over my upper lip, so I trim them when that happens. I do not have a lot hairs growing on the sides so I sometimes just shave the sides completely and just let a goatee. In the past I liked to experiment with different beard styles but this can get quite time consuming if u want to keep some "perfect" beard shape at all times. I stopped doing this around the same time when I stopped having expectations about "perfect" dreads. At first I wanted to have dreads like african american twisted style, but I'm far past this point now.

At first I wanted to have dreads because of fashion reasons but when I actually got properly educated on the matter (by Soaring Eagle), I now have a completely different perspective. I started seeing natural as more beatiful and superior to all those overly manufactured and artificial stuff that we get bombarded with by media and popular culture.

Having a beard dreaded seems a little bit too much care for my taste but that's just me. I have a somewhat longer than usuall beard but I like the undreaded look of it cause it contrasts the dreads on my head. I even thought of trimming it very short multiple times but I'm still leaving it cause I got used to it and I think I'd miss it too much at this point. But yea just looking at Soaring Eagle how even his beard is not fully dreaded I think that facial hair just don't tend to dread as much in general. I wouldn't bother with it, too much to think about like I said, I like to have my beard at somewhat of a liberal length, it just naturally sticks out at a sharp angle so it already has a kinda aggresive look to it, lol.

Hmmm I don't know what flat iron is but judging from this pic I'd say your progress is very fast for 2 months. I've started 3 months ago and I only have 2 real knots, everything else are just sections with no real knots yet. Are those natural or t&r?

I'm no expert but I'd say neglect normally takes more than 3 months for your hair to start looking somewhat dready at all...

Lol I hate the look of wool tams and some time ago I never thought I'd ever give this a try but now I might do it anyway. Just during sleep tho, I'm never wearing this around anyone I swear

I started putting a wool sweater under my blanket at night and I got the feeling it might help a bit. But it's kinda unpractical cause it gets all messed up in the morning, thats why I want to give a tam a try.

Anyone knows any good websites from where I could order a wool tam? Preferably EU based cause I really don't intend to pay all those overseas shipping and postage again.
