Liquid Soaps vs Bar Soap

Dread Products

Ok, I was hoping so, I guess I'll know better after I get done with the bronner's liquid if I'll want to use it or the bar soap....I mean the one downside I feel I have with the liquid is that it seems hard for me to know how much of it I'm using, which is sort of why I wish there was a way to use the bronners at a thicker consistency, but I know that 1:12 is the proper dilution ratio. With a bar soap, I can kind of tell how much is roughly used b how soapy my hands are.

Liquid Soaps vs Bar Soap

Dread Products

I'm aware that the bars won't last nearly as long as the liquid, but if I were to use a soap saver bag could I at least get like maybe about 3 months if not longer out of a bar?

I heard about the bars being ok in hard water as far as residue goes from another user on here I think it was Frankster who said it.

Liquid Soaps vs Bar Soap

Dread Products

Which is better for mature dreads? And if so why?

Background: I ask this question because as I was looking around online aboutdr Bronner's bar soap, one of the other dreadlocks websites, that although it isn't anywhere as ethical as this one talked about dr Bronner's bar soap being better than the liquid for dreads due to it not having the same issues as the liquid as far as possible build up (although they were still against using that soap).

I am highly considering switching from the dr Bronner's liquid to the bars after my liquid runs out, due to the possibility that it will not leave as much of a residue in my hair and also it will end up being a good deal cheaper and still last a long time, I just wanted to get all the information I can first.

Moving Forward With Nature: My Dreadlock Journal

Member Journals and Timelines

3 years 9 months update (a day late). My gap overall seems like it'll seal up eventually, one of the photos shows that it seems like it has a longer way to go than even I realized it was like...hoping it will all turn out ok.  I am currently alternating between using the Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle Shampoo and Dr. Bronners....the tea tree shampoo already has sea salt in it....would also using a sea salt spray in conjunction with that shampoo be too much salt? (I keep wondering if maybe I should stick with the tea tree shampoo for a while, but some of the ingredients have me second guessing that). Any input would be appreciated.

Effects Of Water Rinsing

Dread Maintenance

I have a question, for a long while now, I have been feeling like I may want to transition to shampooing only once a week, and rinsing my hair with just water another day (only done during the warmer months that is) - but I keep wondering if this would actually be helpful to my dreads, such as allowing my natural sebum to travel from my scalp into and down my dreads or if it would not really do anything beneficial for them at all, ie just do nothing but get my hair wet?

Treatment for hard spots

Dread Maintenance

I will keep that in mind for next time and just try making a smaller batch and trying it as a pour over method. I am hoping that the next time I shampoo my hair, it will get the oil out..As I have felt my dreads the last few days I am wondering if some of these hard parts are due to the past interlocking...which is sad, cause they will stay that way, and some of them feel different at different parts....I am revisiting the idea of cutting off the interlocked part down the road...but I can't bring myself to actually do that...to cut off part of my hair's history just feels wrong in my bones, ya know what I mean?

Treatment for hard spots

Dread Maintenance

As my hair dries it feels less sticky than it did before, I am wondering if that means I got it out of my hair. I hope that's the case. Does this mean that shouldn't be putting oil in my hair through a soak and or in at all? ...and I am really hoping I can get it out without using dish soap (if it is still in my dreads).

Treatment for hard spots

Dread Maintenance

I am hoping to be able to get it out of my dreads without having to use dish soap (kinda makes my shudder a little to think about using it on my hair....) I am thinking I may just try and wait and shampoo them when I can next.

Treatment for hard spots

Dread Maintenance

After trying really hard over the last several hours off and on to try and rinse out the oil, the hot water hasn't really seemed to have much an effect on the oil...I guess this shows me that maybe I won't really need to oil my hair that oten...and looks like I may have to end up using dish soap (I have Dawn Ultra), even though I really don't want to have to resort to that...I mean at some points it feels like I may have gotten it out of my dreads or rather the one dread I think has it...but as I squeeze it now, part of that dread feels sticky....I am wondering if I just need to let them dry, that maybe I really did get it out, I can't really tell.

Ok, I will remember that for next time. Is it ok to condition my hair weekly or is it best left for about a once a month to maybe like every 3 months sort of thing?
