what do you mean exactly by "make new"? If your hair on the sides is long enough, it will dread by its own, how did you do your old ones? Natural locks need no special treatment, just washing and separation, that's all.

there is nothing wrong separation regularly even thin dreads, but what do you mean exactly with "cursed bands" ? You can wrap your roots
or even whole dreads with wool or hemp to keep em separated, but never use rubber bands or something like that. It weekens the hair a lot and will
get sucked into the dread over time!

Ok, very good! Then there should be nothing to worry about. If it would be any sort of residue buildup, it would be smelly when wet.
The picture you have posted seems very similar to some of my dread tips. The hard spots might get softer over time.

I have blunted ends myself and i try to rinse very well after every wash , maybe like almost 10 minutes ? With lose ends everything rinses out way easier , thats why i am very focused on the rinses to get everything out completely. Do you rinse long as well ? Make sure to get all shampoo out again.

Yes , don't ever go back to a salon again to get them maintained. Just leave em they will recover from the treatment and get thicker over time. The most locks start small and get thicker over tine.

Dreadlocks form even without washing at all. The saddhus in India practice that for a spiritual reason. On here we promote to wash at least once a week with a shampoo. Rinses with only water inbetween washes are totally ok and helpful to tame the frizz. Washing weekly with massaging the scalp , what before even the comb did , will help to remove dead skin from the scalp. Not washing means everything will stay on your head and even in your dreads , which i think is gross. There are people on here only washing with water , but some had problems with buildup in their dreads. Shampoo is a little better for removing dirt. The drealocksshamppo has clay inside which does the trick.

What kind of maintainance did you do the last years ? Did you crochet the new growth ? If it is very thin , could you let it combine with a thicker lock near by ?

Totally normal for freeform , some lock at the roots first , some start at the tips. It does'nt really matter where the knots start. It will be fine !
