Dread resistant fringe

General Questions

Alright folks :)

I'm 13 months and a few days into the dreading process (neglect with a baking soda / vinegar wash once or twice a week) and despite the unavoidably slow progress with my fine hair, the majority of my head is covered in ickle baby dreads of various sizes. It doesn't really look dreaded unless I hold it out, but I'm sure this will improve as time passes and they mature/thicken. I'd estimate another 12 to 18 months until it's 'properly' done.

Except for the part of my hair that would form the fringe if it was shorter. That bit's still almost completely loose and doesn't seem to want to do anything at all, which is starting to annoy me a little. I'm reluctant to backcomb/t'n'r/whatever, but is there anythingunintrusiveI can do to help it get the hint?

Thanks in advance.

Dread timeline... so far.

Woah, that's some quick progress there. Pure neglect, or have you been encouraging it along the way?

I'd have preferred a remake of VII, but it's all good :)

Anyways, dreadlocks...

I spent the last couple of hours gently pulling apart the TnR. My motivation to do this properly has peaked again :)

Definitely did explain. At great length. To the point where he threw his hook in a bin and vowed to chuck the wax :)

And yeah, it was pretty quick :/ I'm looking for a part time job at the moment and reckon it's hard enough trying to find one without looking a total mess (no matter how lovely I may happen to find the messiness)

Thanks for the tip on the acv!

Okaaay, I got tempted into doing a little TnR after suggestions from a few of my friends. It seems to have come out okay-ish for now, but in all honesty I am a little disappointed in myself. Did tell the guy offering to crochet and wax for me to piss right off though. That's something, I guess.

Also started adding a few essential oils to the bs and my hair has never felt healthier :)

Cheers everyone :)

I was using malt vinegar (acv practically doesn't exist in the UK.)

1. Pour a few pint glasses of water over head.

2. Pour a pint of water with some baking soda over head and rub in a little.

3. Wait around 20 mins.

4. Pour a few pint glasses of water over head.

5. Pour a pint of water with a few splashes of malt vinegar in over head and rub in a little.

6. Wait around 5 mins.

7. Pour a few pint glasses of water over head.

My hair had just dried after being washed with bs and malt vinegar when these were taken. I'm thinking of skipping the vinegar for at least the next few washes, as it seems to make my hair far too soft and I'm missing a few knots that were there prior to washing them. Anyway, slight amounts of progress are visible, so all is well :)

Just washed for the second time with bs and malt vinegar and am absolutely loving the feel of my hair and the way it's separating itself. The best way I can describe the texture would be somewhere between really soft straw, cotton wool and feathers. Either way, it feels and looks healthier than it has done in literally years. It seems to change on an hourly basis and I'm absolutely thrilled by even the smallest signs of initial progress.

It feels great to finally be doing this properly now :)

Definitely gonna update every 2-3 days. I want to be able to look back on the messy stage when I'm fully dreaded :)
