Advice on dying dreads from brown to blonde.

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

Bleached my hair, turned out... well some would say not so good but I think it looks neat, yellowish and some parts are still brown cuz I couldn't get deep in the dreads but meh. No chemical burns, no hair falling out, hair still feels healthy and strong. I do remember when I use to dye a lot my hair felt fried, hence why I stopped for a few years.

For anyone that plans to do what I did, heads up you might need to bleach a couple times to get the desired colour, and be prepared for it to dye unevenly...unless your a pro cuz mine sure didn't haha.

Thanks everyone for your advice, I guess I should have been a bit more clear though, I was looking for advice on bleaching not not bleaching. :)

im on the fence about dumping a bunch of bleach on my head...........

i love the look, dark hair...fully bleached, but i dont wanna ruin my dreads by doing it.

i use sun-in, and love it, but i dont wash my hair much right now, so all that crap stays in there.

maybe i'll mess w/ bleaching some parts on a trial basis when they get more mature

Thanks. That would be horrible, having my hair fall out that is. I don't see Panterra online, I posted in the discussion though to see if anyone has any advice before I cover my head in chems. It should go fine... I am nervous about the outcome but as long as my hair doesn't fall out lol

Thanks any ways, I do have a couple semi precious stones in my hair. Which I need to take out now cuz I bought bleach. Hoping this works okay... thinking I might only bleach the bottom half of my dreads but that might look stupid. :S

Advice on dying dreads from brown to blonde.

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

Hey, so I've had dreads for...4 months now. They are knotted and tight, they are looking pretty awesome, everyone of them has kinks and twists, hoops etc. Some are combining at the root too, which is nice because my dreads are pretty thin.

I suddenly have the urge to dye my dreads blonde, I'm attached to my natural haircolour, it took me so long to get it back, but I find that blonde dreads are really pretty, plus it gives me the option to dye it sharp red if I choose. My last set of dreads use to be blonde but I dyed them well before I dreaded, so I'm not sure how to go about doing it this time. Friends keep telling me that I will have to bleach them, but I've gone from brown to black to blonde and so on tons of times never having to use bleach.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice. My hair is medium to dark brown, sholder length, and I really want to go blonde, not super blonde, white or yellowish blonde. I plan on making a trip up to walmart later to look at some dyes (preferably I would go to Sallys or a salon or something, but there is a pretty big empty spot in my wallet right now hah)...

A couple specific questions: It's been a while since I dyed my hair, how long should I wait before dying a second time (if the dye doesn't take, or I miss some spots)?

After a while of dying some years ago box dyes stopped having the effect that they use to, I'm hoping since it's been a while I won't have that problem, but does anyone know of any brands that work exceptionally well? There were some I used that still worked but like I said, it's been a while. :)

Lastly, before I only needed to use one box, when my hair was this length but undreaded. Will I need two now that I have dreads?

Any advice is greatly appreciated! Sorry for the long-winded post. :P

Severe Dandruff

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Hi,

I've had dreads for a few weeks now, they are dreaded pretty well for being so young, they are coming along nicely. But I am having severe dandruff issues, especially right in the roots. I don't know what to do, it really sucks cuz whenever I go out I have to wear something to cover my head. I try to pick them out of the roots and it just makes it worse, it's like my scalp is caked with it, now the dandruff is getting caught in my dreads pretty bad.

Any ideas? I've been washing with this sites recommended baking soda/water/tea tree oil wash and adding a bit of aloe too, rinsing withvinegar. It's great, helps the itching but my scalp is really bad...

Thanks.

Dreadlock Method

Dreading Methods

Hey thanks,

I keep trying twist and rip and it isn't creating any knots, I will watch the vids you have up and try again. The most recent dreads I have been doing I have been backcombing with the brush gently just the create a knot then doing the rip part which has actually been really effective and seems do be doing less damage then the first bunch (and holding together better too). I thought of doing it natural again but...I guess honestly, I'm too impatient and don't really want to start my first year of university with completely out ofwhackhair :P I also want it to be a little bit more organized this time, moremanageable...I don't know...I looked at a pic just now of my chaotic dreads when I did it naturally and it actually looked pretty cool, you could say each dread had it's own personality haha... I will consider it... Oh and thanks for the posts about not using dread wax, your a dread saver! :)

Dreadlock Method

Dreading Methods

Hi there, I recently started making new dreads, it's been a couple weeks and I have 15 along the top rows. I had a full head of dreads about 4 years back using the neglect/rubbing my head with a rough wool hat method :P and thought that I would try backcombing this time. I was anxious to get started, and the only tool I had to use to start backcombing was a cat brush, I figured that it would work nice (and it has) since there are rows upon rows of bristles, the bristles are metal, tiny and very close together. I was just wondering if anyone else has used a cat brush rather than a flea comb? Was it a bad idea? It seems fine, but I'm a bit concerned that if I decided to brush the dreads out in a few years that I would see that the brush was actually breaking all of the hairs ( I backcombed a couple of dreads a second time and some of the hair that was part of the dread is loose and only half the length that it was before :s ) I want to finish doing the rest of my head but wanted to see if anyone else has used this and had it turn out badly, or if I'm just being paranoid and it's actually fine. Cheers, Lora.
