bit then 1 day we were out xmass shopping in the mall and 6 grey haired condse4rvative old ladies swarmed around me saying they never saw anything so beautiful

from thayt day on my mom hasnt said negative word

u see they think its an embarasment they think it reflects badly on them..but when they see you get mostly positive reactions they will most likely change thier tune

Negativity towards dreadlocks

Dreadlocks Journey Emotional Support

Hey everyone! I hope you are all having an awesome day. So it's been a year into my journey and I still get negative comments about my hair from my family and friends. They were never supportive of my choice but I thought they would grow to accept it. To this day I still get comments about how gorgeous my loose hair was or they suggest different hair cuts or they tell me just how much better I would look without my dreadlocks. They don't really understand that the journey is not about physical appearance... And it really hurts when they say all of these things. And I tend to get really frustrated when people say I don't have REAL dreadlocks. You know what I'm talking about? Because I don't have overly maintained, boring, smooth, crochet, blunted dreadlocks, to them I don't have REAL dreads. How do you guys deal with these situations? I started this journey with the intention to keep them till the day I die but these people make me want to cut them just so they would stop bugging me!

New growth not locking?

General Questions

I'm sorry, I guess I worded that wrong. All I do is separate and use the sea salt about once or twice a week. I will see if switching to liquid helps.

when i say you dont do alot of maintenance that means your doing some..what are you doing

separating and washing is all they need

if u use the bars try the liquid awhile

or add the pink sea salt

Thanks for the quick reply! I wash with all natural dreadlock shampoo fromhttp://shop.dreadlockshampoo.com/

And yes my dreads have been maturing pretty slowly since I do not do a lot of maintenance aside from separation. They still have a long way to go.

I've had them tied up for 4-8 hours a day because of my job. This probably hindered the process because they did not have the opportunity to move and knot. But I have been leaving them down a lot more recently. I will stop tying them up for a month and see how it goes! Thank you.

New growth not locking?

General Questions

Hey everyone! Although I've visited this website many times, I just joined today. It's nice to meet you all & be a part of this community! Let's be friends!

So I've had my dreadlocks for almost a year and I noticed my new growth does not seem to be knotting up. I know roots need to be loose to a point as to avoid constant tension and other issues but I seem to have 2-3 inches of unknotted roots and I was wondering if this was normal? I feel like my hair is just going to keep growing and growing and undread itself. Am I simply freaking myself out over here?

Thanks for taking the time to read!
