Dreadie-or-not

Introduce Yourself

Hi Taye. My strands have balls at the end and have already rounded out as you call them. Do you think that the strands will get as big around as the balls or around the same size. I don't like the way they look, but I guess I'll have to live with it. every pic I see on here is of people that don't have balls at the end of their dreads. I think my hair doesn't look so good because of the balls. my hair is so totally different than other people on this site. I know that different can be good but I think this different is not. I guess I'm feeling a little insecure about my dreads. I've been growing these dreads for about 9 months. It is taking foreeeever.

Dreadie-or-not

Introduce Yourself

Maybe somebody could help me by answering this question. I have been on this journey since February. I have 13 or 14 knots at the bottom of my hair. The shafts of hair are dreading up nicely. I see so many people on here with their timelines of their dread journey. There is nobody that I have seen on here that have all these knots at the bottom of their hair. Here is my question....Is the shaft of my hair going to become as big around as these knots, or am I going to have these knots at the end of these smaller shafts of hair. I sure hope not. But if that is the case dreadie-or-not. here I come

theping sea salt from dreadlockshampoo.com has added vitamins and proteins so u can leave it in..if thasts what u mean

if not theres no diference between the sea and sea salt spray other then the fact thastthe ocfeans a great bif tiolet foe millions of fish and we pump billions of gallobs of waste and toxins and what not into it daily..the sprays cleaner It was more of a tongue in cheek question. what I was basically saying is why spray a little bit of red sea salt on your hair verses totally submerging your hair in the ocean. why not just submerge your hair with sea salt like you do in the ocean. Maybe I'm doing this all wrong. are you suppose to spray the red Himalayan sea salt on your hair and leave it in?

Here's the twenty-five thousand dollar dumbest question. or is it? If it's ok to swim in the ocean and soak your dreads, then why do we use a spray bottle with sea salt in it to spritz our dreads. I mean what's the difference. I soak my dreads every other week with Himalayan red sea salt, as if I was at the ocean. I honestly don't see the difference. I get no negative results. It actually works good for me. No, my hair is not dried out. I am not suggesting that anyone do as I do. But I just don't understand. Maybe somebody on here that has the wisdom of Yoda, can answer this question. LOL

Thank you, for your encouraging words. I decided not to take pictures for a time line because I thought all the pictures on here are of pretty young girls or handsome bucks. I'm not feeling sorry for myself just trying to be realistic. Besides, everybody's dreads are different. I tried to take pictures of my dreads today, but it was of no use because my hair is doing this thing where all the knots are being hidden beneath a thick wispy bunch of hair. My hair is so thin that my "cheapie" camera won't pick up the dreads.

that's awesome that you stopped smoking. I forgot to mention that I have a garden also. If I can do it, anybody on this site can do it. I think the main thing is to go slow. I know you will do it. By the way, how long have you been dreading? Stubs

It's extremely difficult. I used to have so much ice cream in my bowl that my family would just tell me to get a trash can to put it in. LOL. I'm trying to educate myself as I go along. I love pizza, chips, soda you name it I love to eat it. I am a compulsive over eater. I'm sure that I'm much older than you. I wanted whats left in my life to be more productive health wise. I knew I had to change. I started out by excluding one thing at a time. Like mayonnaise, then sodas, ice cream, cheese, bread etc. I started the weaning process. My daughter bought me a nutribullet and I started making smoothies. A blender works fine. I'm just a "newbie vegan" starting out. Go to your natural health food store. check out the internet. find a friend that's a vegetarian, Somebody you know that can help you without you feeling intimidated. I happen to live in a family that were all over weight but wanted to change their health. They have been a wealth of knowledge for me. If you can afford to purchase the book Raw Food For Dummies, that might be of some value for you. Thank you for your response to my post. Just start out easy. Don't go cold turkey. baby steps. :)

Challenge and I love it

Introduce Yourself

This last year has been a challenge, and I love it. I started my journey on December 6th, 2013. I worked for a company that I had to wear a cap. I would put my hair in a pony tail and wrap it into a bun and put it under my cap. I was absolutely ignorant about how to dread. I looked on the internet on how to dread. one person said go to the store and purchase Neutrogena shampoo anti-residue formula. That was a stupid mistake. It is so bad for the environment. My hair did absolutely nothing. read my lips NOTHING. Then I found this site, and it was like Dorthy, stepping into the land of Oz. Reality set in on how to dread the positive, real way. I lost my job this year on Feb 20, 2014. I consider this my "True" starting date. No more cap. Today is my 6th month. I have about 10 knots. It's taking some time, but that's alright. SUMMARY: So... I started off wrong. Pony tail, used the wrong shampoo, lost my job and became a vegan. If you think dreading is tough, I dare you, try being a vegan. After 60 years of eating junk and destroying my body, it hasn't been easy for me. I had to share my story with you because now I can move forward. It's been a challenge and I love it.These challenges have made me stronger. I feel better about my life and dreading has been a positive part of it. I was going to do a time line but nobody wants to see an "old fart" on here. Hahahah. sorry about the length of this story.
