Dread Wrapping?

Dread Maintenance

I really like how they look. My dreads are only a month old so I don't want to wrap them if it's going to slow down the process or hurt them in any way... Thank you for the help. You guys are the best <3

Dread Wrapping?

Dread Maintenance

So, I'm not sure if this question has already been answered. But what is the point in wrapping your dreads? I really like the way they look when wrapped in hemp yarn and stuff. I'm just not really sure what purpose it serves... How does is help your dreads? Or does it not help?

This definitely won't be an easy journey...

General Talk

I seriously feel like a broken record when I try to educate people on the little that I know about dreads. I live in Oklahoma so there are definitely a lot of closed minded and old fashioned people everywhere I go. But I'm really excited about getting my dreads! So who cares what they say!

General Talk

I started the natural dreading process on the 19th of July. My shampoo should arrive today. Yay! Some people have been very supportive and great. Others, not so much. I've already been told that my hair is going to look "gross" or "nasty" or "dirty". I've even had people tell me that my hair is going to look "ugly like a black persons". Can you believe that?! Some people have tried to give me suggestions and told me to check out knottyboys lol I always knew dreads were misunderstood but now that I'm actually doing them, I REALLY know that they are. I've always gotten negative comments or thoughts because of my piercings or because I'm a 20yr old single mom of two. Why not just add another thing for people to hate?! :D ... Just a rant..

Big time beginner

General Questions

Can I still shampoo regularly? If so, what shampoo could I use? Dreading shampoo? (sorry, I don't know all the correct terms.)

General Questions

I'm new to this site. Still finding my way around. I have never dreaded before but I have been obsessed with them for years now. I've just heard so many rumors and I don't know what's true and what isn't. I'm a single mother of two (4years & 5months) so I really don't have a lot of time to myself. I would really like to begin dreading but I'm not sure of how to begin. I've read that neglect is the best way but I'm just wondering exactly how that works. How do I do it/begin and how long does it take for the locs to start forming? I was thinking about just starting with a couple but I don't know what method I could use for that. The biggest reason why I haven't started is because I've been growing my hair out for a while now. I have it in layers and my longest layer is to the middle of my back. My fear is having to cut them out if it doesn't work out or for whatever reason. I just really need things broken down Barney style. I always like to know exactly what I'm getting into before I go into it.
