Starting New Dreads

Member Journals and Timelines

Hey guys! Thanks so much for the fast replies and comments. Thanks for the tips Tara! And SE I just used the same shampoo I always use since I hadn't exactly planned on starting them that day. I definitely have sectioning and actually starting to get some knots in a few of the sections. So far my boss has not said anything. *crosses fingers* My girlfriend has a whole tub of essential oils and organic stuff(coconut oil, etc) that she uses to make natural beauty products for herself.(I told her about this site and to join and sell some of her products here). I am gonna look for a shampoo recipe on this site, but in case I can't find it, can someone post a link to a good hard water dread shampoo recipe? I will post another pic on Thursday before I wash it again. I am already noticing some of the sections in the very back are flat and matted a little bit. :s

Starting New Dreads

Member Journals and Timelines

Sooo I have been growing my hair out for about 3 years now with the intention of dreading it at some point. That point has come and after a lot of reading I am going to try it the all natural way. I am a little worried about all my hair becoming one dread or being too crazy and the repercussions I could face at work. I am a manager at a retail grocery store so I will be putting my hair back loosely while there and hoping noone says anything. If I am wearing my hair up in a ponytail for 40+ hours a week, will it affect the natural dreading? I shampooed yesterday and didn't condition or brush. Today I went to the beach and took a little swim in the ocean hoping it would help my hair progress quicker. Here's some pics from today at the beginning of my journey. Plan on updating with pics as I go.

*4 Days*

So I had my girlfriend snap the pics below for me right before I got in the shower today. I used 2 drops of Dr. Bronners castile soap and 2 drops of tea tree oil into a couple cups of water and poured it on my scalp and some up the nape of my neck with my head upside down. I think the wash really loosened it and brought the frizz factor down, so gonna try something different next time. I definitely have some sectioning and some of the ones in the back are flat and matted and they all wanna form into a fatty. Still looking for a good shampoo recipe for baby dreads...
