salon - loctician dreads

salon and loctician dreads recovery

We see little girls running around with TIGHT braids just like photo number 4 and cant help but think " that poor girl has a "5 head now", literally a receded hairline at age 4-9 because they or likely their parents wont go loose and natural. It's nice to be involved in a community where the damage is clear and for the most part avoided. I can't blame the cosmetologists for selling their services, because that's what they do, but it seems none of the pictured examples of their work involve common sense. There's a salon nearby here that offers treatments like "the hippie" which is just a trim for those who embrace the natural hairstyle but still brush and the only dread care they do is washing in their sink with all natural shampoo. If only all salons were honest and see through like that. I'll see if I can find any bad examples.

Long Emotional rant, not 100% dread related.

General Talk

Wow, it takes guts to say these things. "Like you have to break someone down to the point of begging for mercy in order for them to be humble." This part is especially screaming out to me. Considering I'm a very simple person and I used to get walked over all the time. I didnt realize how awful people can be until around 18. It was then that I found out what a real friend is and I stopped contacting my "fairweather" friends. I felt a little guilty at first, but if you can't love thy neighbor as much as they want you to, it's OKAY. It's okay to sever ties with family because you don't like what they've become. I did that because of the ignorance and hypocrisy of a few of my family members, and guess what? Life goes on. I feel better for that actually, and I hope you feel better, too. Many people who see me probably think I'm one of those people walking around with my nose in the air, but honestly, if I see people doing detrimental things I turn away or try not to look because if I dwell on how they are smoking cigarettes right next to their child, or have a grocery cart full of monsanto-con-agra frankenfood, I shudder and feel empathetic towards them and the planet. You are probably a truly humble person and don't let "modern" society get you down like it does to me on the daily. sounds like you need a little getaway in the woods to clear your head. Peace, peace, hair-grease.

When people tell you how to maintain your hair

General Talk

Thanks for the supportive comments everyone. What spurred this was a cashier telling me to get them done by her daughter in law. She was trying to drum up business for her, I get that. I also get that many cosmetologists are tricked into thinking you need products andthat they are safe (which only about 1% are) to use on whomever and make a profit. I'll try and revamp my approach as to how negative manual methods can truly be. I agree that they are envious. Jealousy breeds envy. A waiter I knew from highschool was actually upfront about it this month when i stopped in a restaurant and said " wow, you have dreads now? I'm jealous, I wish I could do that" and I smiled. If only those people who don't embrace imperfection would say something like that... I have an awesome chat coversation from someone... he didnt want to listen. If you think you can not get enraged over his lack of a brain, then read on.

curiousgeorg3: its looks messy but once u get it done, itll look hott lol
me : there is no definite "done" with neglect, the journey goes on for a long time... no chemicals, no manual process, no maintenance, but yes, i will be happy once it locks up.
curiousgeorg3:wax it and keep dreading it i guess
me : yuck
(T) curiousgeorg3: white girl with dreads
me : wax is a dread killer
(T) curiousgeorg3: sexxxyy
me : so how many dreadheads do you know that have used wax and dont get mildew?
me : and dont cut em
me: and totally lock up?
(T) curiousgeorg3: mmm about 2 of them
me : I had a bf who had them for a year and a half, who waxed only a few times and they never locked completely using the backcombing thing
curiousgeorg3: one of them shes my friend she did it like 2 yrs ago and she waxed and keep dreading them daily
me : shit, im not going to shave my head, thats why i dont backcomb
me : you know how split that makes the shaft?
(T) curiousgeorg3: lmao why not?? bald girls is the new shit now days
curiousgeorg3: i see girls with half a head shaved
me : then you have the strange stage that comes along with BC and crochet
me : yeah, i just dont want to
(T) curiousgeorg3: why not take it to the next level. go bald ot go home lol
me : so mine come out with conditioner
me: until absolutley necessary for the health of our neck muscles we won't be cutting them... well, he might look okay but if my dreads get so heavy that they give me a wide neck, I'll probably start all over again for the fun of it.
me: straight hair is so overrated
curiousgeorg3: chances are youre gonna get rid of them in less than a year
me : fuck naw

me: im in for the long haul
me: im doing it with my hubby so there's a pact unspoken about not cutting them
curiousgeorg3: cuz after a while if you domt take care of them and do the proper procedures then you better off buy a free pass for the baber shop
curiousgeorg3: but it takes time so dont get all crazy about it... maybe your hair needs diiffrerent tratment
me : "take care of them" there lies the issue, see theres this mistakenly spread thing about maintenance... when there is none. i cant wait to put this on my blog.

When people tell you how to maintain your hair

Strangers and acquaintances are the worst and it keeps happening. I try to verbally educate them but it's like going in one ear and out the other... What do you say when someone says "you should go get them done again" or "Use wax" when they themselves haven't been on a dread journey before?

It's so annoying, I made a YouTube video about it...

Dreadlocks Journey Emotional Support

I had a tiny ball like that formed with only a few strands of hair that fell off because it was so weak. Don't feet, that won't happen to yours. I wonder why it happens At the nape, all my nape dreads are funky shaped as well.

Starting Out Alone

Dreading Methods

There is a wikihow unfortunately that explains "the way" to dread your hair, it's a process that is totally manicured and totally wrong. The only thing I did think was a good idea was the "sectioning" step but with a tweak: after the dreads have sectioned themselves, to wrap with embroidery thread temporarily at least a few inches from the scalp to prevent Congo pain. That is something I wish I had done on day five since my whole head wanted to dread together so fast. I didn't do it as quickly as I should have and a few snips had to be made, but they are all separate at this point and I'm glad we didnt do the more socially accepted, yet destructive, method(s) of dreading. Your hair has its own attitude and watching it do it's thing is very interesting... Plus it teaches you to accept and appreciate yourself in a completely natural state. It did for me, anyway.Hopefully you take the almost no maintenance plunge on your journey so you can sit back and enjoy the ride.
