Flat Dreads

Introduce Yourself

Haha I love that he said beautifully bad, so sweet. I keep asking my husband what mine look like and he says, like you're growing dreads. So I guess that is what a hot mess looks like lol Yay Ratdog! Hope you had fun.

Flat Dreads

Introduce Yourself

I'm almost 7mth. and I would say almost every one of mine are flat on the ends too. But just the ends. So I'm hoping they will round out. The roots are all round, I figure that is the important part. My hair is a hot mess right now. I'm trying to be patient. Not all of my hair is dreaded so I have these crazy long sections that haven't dreaded and these short, shrunken dreaded parts, like I said hot mess. I try to remind myself it is all part of the process and it is an ever changing one. Sometimes I find it helps to hear someone else is going through the same thing. Hope it does :) Peace

Lint & stuff getting stuck in baby dreads

Dread Maintenance

I have the same problem & I have a bad habit of doing the same, picking through, untangling the ends and pulling all the lint out. It actually winds around the hairs and binds them together so I end up undoing loose ends to pull the lint off the strands of hair. Probably not the best habit. I just vowed to fight the bad wrap dreads get of being 'dirty'. I don't want to give anyone ammunition. The weird thing is I don't find as much in my daughters dreads. Hers are a few months older than mine, perhaps that is why. I use the Viciki's dreadlock bars and liquid shampoo and I still get the lint. I think perhaps it's the towels I am using, I think I will just buy some brown towels, then maybe I won't notice as much. I've included some pics of what this looks like.

stinky {mildew?} dreadlocks

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Thanks SE. Yes my daughter, son & I all are in some stage of dreads. My daughter the longest at 3mth my son only 2wks behind her & I started the journey about 6wks ago. I decided the smell is just like when you leave laundry sit in the washer all wet on a hot day & forget to put it in the dryer or on the line to dry. I will definitely get the rot knot. Just wondering if you know what it could be to prevent it in the future? I Wil stop using the Trader Joe's shampoos & order the dreadlocks shampoo. Just not sure what to change in our routine, we wash in the morning and don't put our hair up until it is all the way dry. Any other tips to prevent stinky dreads would be great!

stinky {mildew?} dreadlocks

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I also am havng a musty smell problem. About 8wks in. I use Trader Joe's Tea Tree Shampoo or the Citrus Shampoo from TJs. I have gone all natural no other products, only wash in the morning about 3 tmes a week. My daughter has the same problem, my son uses the same shampoo washes the same & swims 3 times a week in the afternoon s his hair is actually wet later in the day & no smell. The only difference is his hair is just to his shoulders. My daughter & I both have hair to the middle of our back. What could be causing the smell? I will try the thyme tea soak, does It have to be fresh herbs or can I use dried? I really don't want to walk around w/a stinky head. Please help thanks

Best compliment you've received on your dreads?

General Talk

My 10yo daughter Willow got her first compliment today. While at the local high to see a play, a friend of my oldest daughter came out & said, "Willow look at your dreads coming along, they are so pretty!" She just beamed. The best part, Willow's hair was extra wild, frizzy & messy today. Which her Dad & I think happens to be pretty darn cute! Just thought I would share that happy story :)

loops lumps kinks and zig zags in dreadlocks

Dread Maintenance

Eric Organiscak said:

I'm glad this thread is still alive! I read through it all and wish there were more posts. ;p I'm at one month now and I'm starting to get loops. One of my dreads that got a loop last week now has two! xD It's starting to look like it could form into an aum symbol. I hope so.

I'm also worried about losing so much length. I love long hair too. When I started last month, my hair was (and still is so far) about halfway down my back. I hope I don't lose more than half length and it stays at least at or below my shoulders.
