Dreads in the Family
Well that's just awful for someone to say those things to you, especially your own mother!
I would just explain that you're a teenager, you're experimenting with your style, and that everyone should stop worrying because it's not even their hair to begin with.
If you listen to yourself rather than others' negative comments, you'll have some amazing dreads pretty soon and they'll stop nagging :P
