Finally a Dreadhead or on the Way to it!

Introduce Yourself

Hi Gjorgi, I'm Brandi and welcome to the best site for dreads! Soaring Eagle has set up a great place here for all of us dreadies to chat and ask questions. I looked at your pics and let me guess, they used a crochet hook? The worst and most damaging to the hair. If they had just bakcombed the sections and used no wax you'd be ok but with the hook it breaks the hair on the inside...and well outside too but makes the dreads very tight. They need to be loose in order to move freely and tangle and lock up naturally. Soaring Eagle will tell you I'm sure but using a hook also basically puts you behind in the process a minimum of 6 months. The size of your section shouldn't be too large neither, around 1 inch as the dread will get larger over time. If you are happy with them as they are now make sure to never use any wax and toss the crochet hook. Good luck to you and Happy Dreading!!!

I regret moving (I just need to vent).

General Talk

There's nothing wrong with venting and I know how you feel, minus the move. I live in Las Vegas and have for most all of my life and I have gotten to the point that I want out of here so bad that some days that's all I think about. I've grown up out here since since 2nd grade and am now 41. I used to love (when I was younger) how nothing ever closed and for some of my early 20's enjoyed the hell out of it. I worked grave and partied during the day with friends. I am on disability now and have been for almost 2 years, the sad part is that almost all my friends were my co-workers of 19 years...now that I'm gone I'm out of sight out of mind. Don't get me wrong, I love being home for my daughter when she gets home from school (Zoey's almost 15) and making my family dinner but most days all I think of is getting out of here. I for some odd reason want to move to Oregon so bad I can taste it. Yummy, rain, tall green trees and beaches! I haven't been there since I was about 3 so other than other pics I see I have no idea why Oregon. I am lonely in Vegas, I hate the dry desert heat with a passion and since I started dreading it has gotten worse. I want to be outdoors, but in a beautiful place. I understand the financial aspect as I am on a limited income but I can't talk my husband into leaving for anything. The funny thing is while I was working, I was a cocktail waitress in a casino making great money with wonderful benefits, I was the one afraid to give it up. Now the shoe hasn't just switched feet but doesn't want to come off his foot..lol. I'm sorry for ranting for so long I just feel your pain as well. I wish the best for you and your family. I realize how expensive it is to move but maybe something wonderful will come your way and allow you to go back to Ohio. Good luck with everything and you've always got a friend here!!!

Sham Wow Towels

General Questions

I want to tell anybody who is wondering or considering trying these...I used it yesterday for the first time and was honestly kinda leery that it would really do much more than a towel. Normally after I shower I would wrap a towel around my hair to catch the drips and would leave it on my head for around 30-45 minutes. After taking the towel off my hair would still continue to drip for around another hour. Yesterday I wrapped the Sham Wow around my hair (I needed 2 X-large to cover my hair as they aren't big enough) just long enough to throw some clothes on and took it off to wring it out. WOW! I couldn't believe how much water it had already pulled from my dreads. I tried 2 more times, this time just squeezing it over my locks and both times there was enough water to be wrung out of the shammy. On a normal day of shampooing my shirt is pretty wet from the ongoing drips....not anymore, and my hair dried much faster. They are definitely worth buying. I would suggest to have 2 of the X-large ones though if you'd like to get an average amount of hair in there. Take care everyone! And thanks again Eagle for the suggestion!!

Sham Wow Towels

General Questions

Hello all! I just had a quick question regarding Sham Wow towels. I bought some and am a little unsure of how to use it. The package says that they are supposed to be thoroughly soaked in water first and wrung out before using, but you're using it damp. Would this be the same if I am wrapping it around my hair? It says to use wet or dry but I've never used one before. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Oh and I know these are supposedly lint free but the orange fibers kinda look a little fuzzy, please tell me I won't end up with orange fuzz in my locks. Thanks again!!!

Sorry...I had to move this as I originally put it in the wrong place...oops
