Vegetarian Food Allergies?

Dreads and Diets

If I were you I'd keep at least one Epi Pen around while testing different foods. They can save your life. I have one whenever I am out in my garden(We think I have a bee allergy) Anyway good luck, update what works for you:]

Vegetarian Food Allergies?

Dreads and Diets

My sister can't eat any fruits or veggies unless they were processed and canned we thought she was faking until her doctor said a lot of people are allergic to the pesticides or something like that they spray on the food during the growing process and the chemicals get soaked into the fruit/veggie. She can eat farmers market organic fruits and veggies just fine. Have you tried different sources of the foods?

Dread a Wig?

General Questions

Oh I get what you mean. My recruiter and I talked about it. He said if I have to get a wig to cut my hair uniform for boot camp and I took out my gauges before they got big thanI would be fine. This has been on my mind for years I just didn't want to start dreads to get attached have to take them out and start over when I finished with the military.

That's fine I can handle that. In all seriousness and politeness I think we can be on the same page. I wasn't trying to give you reasons not to do it. When I said things like... the USMC may not like it all that much.. it was more of [like I mentioned before] think it through before you spend money on it. kwim?

In the original post I actually ended with Is it possible to do it and if anyone had suggestions nowhere did I ask if I should.

And Sara I felt that nowhere did you give a suggestion but tried to give me reasons why not to do it. Sorry if I misunderstood you and Sorry if I came off rude but I felt like my whole point was being ignored.

Exactly. Obviously this person has their mind made up before they even posted this question. Instead of asking "should I" they should have been asking " how do I?.

Sara M~ )O( said:

Wow, you completely ignored my last comment. It doesn't look like you take suggestions very well, though, so I will politely bow out and refrain from offering any more to you in the future.

Dread a Wig?

General Questions

Okay first off they aren't allowed to have bangs. Hair has to be uniform length and to be honest I dont see how he kept them through training unless it was for religious reasons.

How do you know I like my hair? I wear clip in extensions because I hate my hair. It is embarrassing. What is the principle in me suffering in hair I can't stand when I can wear what makes me feel more comfortable and beautiful.

I am more worried about it looking real and nice and natural than my fellow Marines and family knowing whether it is real or not.

Does everyone in the world look kindly on your dreads? Is it easy to get jobs with them? Do people get the idea you are dirty? Well when anyone decides to attempt dreads they understand that with it comes a stigma. The only one I worry about is being called a Hermit when I wear my Sari but then again that is a pretty cool thing to be called :]

Anyway this was not to ask about the principle of dreads or whether having a wig is right or not because I live where I can decide for myself what "right" is. This was to ask how to do it or for anyone else's experiences with it or Kanekalon dreads.

Sara M~ )O( said:

Actually, at the time this gentleman was in the Armed Forces, white males were the only ones who really wore bangs, and were only allowed to have them a certain length. He kept his locks, and when he felt they were too long [and at this time he was done with his service], he cut them and now he has short, cropped hair.

Cancer patients are different... it's principle. You have hair that you like. Most cancer patients will wear wigs and hats to keep warm, or because they are self-conscious about not having hair, or about going bald from the chemo. Not solely because they want a different hair style.

Do what you want, but even though the military may not forbid you to wear a dreaded wig, they may not look kindly on it. And if you wear it after hours it will be obvious it's not permanent. That's the point of a wig, right, to make it look like your own hair?

I think you should do whatever feels right to you, regardless of what anybody else says. For the reasons you have stated you can't have permanent dreads but you still want them enough to have them when you can, so go for it :-)

Dread a Wig?

General Questions

There are no race specific rules he probably could keep them because they were neat and looked more like braids than dreads. So is a cancer patient merely wearing an accessory? The dreads that Mylene suggested are merely accessories as well. I know a lot about military rules and regulations and when they stop so please don't keep saying the same thing that I can't wear what I want when I am off duty because I know I can. So I want to create dreads and maintain them in a wig that I won't wear 4 days out of the week during the morning and for months at a time while deployed. I will treat them just as my own but I will have to take them off at certain times. Does that make them any less mine? Is a cross dresser still a cross dresser if her wears a suit to work? Is a married Hindu woman treating her religion as an accessory because she doesn't wear her mangalsutra to work?

Dread a Wig?

General Questions

I was planing on using synthetic cause I have family in india and hear the stories of people stealing women's hair to sell to hair and wig companies. You guys the military does not own your looks 24/7 as long as you meet uniform standards when you are working for them/wearing their uniform thats all they care about. I know people you have fake piercings, clip in "scene" extensions, etc. but that are in the military.

I think it is ridiculous that just because it is a wig that makes it a party accessory. Women wear wigs all the time and treat it like their real hair. The only difference is that I take mine off during Physical Training sessions rather than just at night.

Also someone is gonna have to serve and I want someone out there that is doing the job right & for the right reasons rather than some trigger happy 9/11 racist who wants to kill "all dem arabs!"

If I spend a lot of time on the Kanekalon fibers and a needle can they look good? I don't want it to look like one of the barbies who you had to wrestle from the dog. :]
