should i comb out afro and start there or leave it alone?

Dread Maintenance

Hello. I've been on this natural journey for two weeks now and I've had one big question going on in my head for some time.. my hair is about three inches long when I stretch it out from my matted Afro. It looks like I my hair is shorter due to my hair scrunching up and twisting in balls. I want my dreads to form nice and Congo. My question is should I finger pick my hair or comb it so that it will dread better or leave it as it is? I'm African American btw. Kind of like what bob Marley did with his fro. Let it grow long and than start the neglect method.

Using Palmers Olive oil shampoo? good or bad

Dread Maintenance

Would putting some of the shampoo in a bucket of warm water and let it rinse through my hair be a good idea?

Using Palmers Olive oil shampoo? good or bad

Dread Maintenance

So at the moment I'm having a hard time because I've ran out of baking soda. I'm one week through my journey for natural neglect dreads. I used to wash every two days with the BS/acv rinse wish made my hair and scalp clear. I've ran out recently and can't go to the store to purchase any so my only option is the olive oil shampoo. Will this effect and ruin my progress so far by using this shampoo. Keep in mind I have very kinky African American hair. Its been about four days since my last BS/acv rinse and my hair stinks. Should I or not? Thabks

Water wash through hair every morning? Good or bad?

Dread Maintenance

So Im on day 3 of natural neglect and so far I can see some progress through my hair. I wash every 3 days with vinegar and baking soda but in the mornings I rinse my hair in the shower with warm water. The reason why is because I have african american hair which is about 2.5 inches in length and when i go to sleep on my wool pillow i awake to really matted knotted hair. I want my dreads to form the best and im not sure if im slowing the process down by rinsing my hair with water every morning. I rinse it so that my hair isnt as matted and I dont look crazy going out the house to school.

Should I stop doing this? If yes what other techniques should I do?

Thanks

(p.s sorry if I repreated the same question over and over.. I just woke up lol :P )

Starting my natural dreadlocks. Need tips

General Questions

Hello. Im new here and also new to the whole dreadlock hairstyle and I was wondering how I should prepare/start my soon to become dreads. I have a few questions involving getting my afro to form the natural dreads. At the moment my afro is about 2 inches and it has multiple textures. It is very thick and straight and gets matted really easily. The problem im having currently is, when i wake up in the mornings the back of my afro gets really flat and matted and that worries me because I dont want it to mess with the formation of my dreads. Is it because my hair is too dry or short? Also i have a habit of twisting my hair with my fingers so should i stop doing this? Im trying to form the best healthiest dreads as possible so any tips/advice would help. Currently i wash my hair every week or so with regular shampoo (no conditioner) and i let it dry after drying I spray it with some salt water that i made with sea salt and water. Am i doing this soon and is this damaging my hair? What steps should i take. Thanks :D

p.s.. sorry for the long paragraph.. i have alot of questions lol
