Shampoo question

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Hello! I just ordered some all natural dread shampoo as usual but it won't be in till Saturday, Monday the latest. I've been running and sweating A LOT lately and really need to wash myHair at least once until then. I'm out of baking soda and out of money. My question is will it be ok to use suave clarifying shampoo just once? I don't have really any other option right now!!

Making your own shampoo?

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I've been looking into making my own shampoo bars, and I was wondering if anyone had some success in making their own? I've been finding lots of directions and recipes but im not sure which ones are "dread safe" really..

So, what do you guys use when making your own shampoo, if you do?

Weak hair? Dreads three months old~

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Its not me really pulling on individual locks, but when my hands are going through them, and an individual hair will get caught on my hand.. instead of stretching or pulling, it will usually just break once i pull on it.

I'm also now in the process of finding a new shampoo, thank you. Is there a website that's reputable for shampoos? Im not sure how i feel about the baking soda wash yet.

Also thank you! I have not used any products besides that shampoo. And the only method was back coming. But yes, I will take those rubber bands out right now! They were only in because when i first got my dreads, where i slept on my head, all the dreads stuck together and i spend over two hours seperating them again!!

Thank you again~

Hey, So because you back combed, there was a significant amount of damage done, to begin with. It's ok. It's within a reasonable range. Most likely the ripping that you are hearing is from the ripped and fragile hairs from the back combing.

As for the shampoo, like I said in you comments box, clarifying shampoos are no good for regular use. While they do strip most oils away, they actually leave a residue of their own. (I know, kind of hypocritical). But it's true. That residue will build up and start to weigh your locks down and can cause problems with mold, down the line.

Why are you pulling on your locks? Out of curiosity? Unless you are separating them. Then that ripping sound is completely normal. That's just what it sounds like, because you actually are ripping hairs apart.

For only 3 months, your locks look pretty far along, did you use any products, or just back combing? They look clear of wax, and no signs of crocheting, from what I can see. But the few bands you have towards the roots should come out. Bands squeeze your locks too tight (no matter how loosely you think you put them on), and create weak spots that have a really hard time fixing themselves, and tend to snap off, at those places, over time. Also, bands often break and get sucked up into your locks where they dry rot and grow mold/mildew

Weak hair? Dreads three months old~

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Alright, So ive had most of my dreads for three months now, if not more. But i feel like my hair is brittle.. the individual hairs themselves.. not the dreads. i feel like I can hear them snapping a lot and will break easily when pulled on. I've always had strong and healthy hair... I dont use any products except for suave clairifyingshampooonce a week. I used the backcombing method to start my dreads as welll, and i dont palm roll very often anymore. Is there any natural products i could use in my hair to make it stronger again? Or am i just geting over-nervous about my hair becoming unhealthy? I've attached a photo of them from behind as of a couple days ago. I'd love for some help! :)
