Advice needed! Scalp showing, should I split some dreads?

Dread Maintenance

No products except dr bronners bar for shampoo and some other nonresidue shampoo from amazon that I really like. The person didn't use any except nonresidue shampoo also, only thing she did was backcomb. Ok I won't palm roll anymore, actually haven't for a couple of weeks now. Thanks for replying

Ah ok great, thats a relief to hear. I really hope thats just the case, maybe I should just wait another month and not pick hairs out to cover the scalp

Nope I made sure that the hair towards the scalp was always free..i did palm roll periodically, not very often though throughout the 4 months and wondering if palm rolling has a positive or negative effect. And thanks for the suggestion, I take off the head coverings when at home and while asleep most of the time too. I was slightly ocd about the sectioning though and tried to not have lose hairs touching hairs from other dreads, not sure if that's actually supposed to happen though. Happy dreading to you as well.

Advice needed! Scalp showing, should I split some dreads?

Dread Maintenance

Hi all,

I'm new to the forums and decided that I needed to make an account after browsing on and off for a few months. I'm not sure if this is the right section to ask this, but is it normal to have some scalp showing the the dreadlocks? It looks like its parted in a way..I've had em for 4 months now and did twist and rip on a few and paid someone to backcomb, however the backcombing hasn't really made a difference I think. I originally started with neglect but decided I needed to do something after 2-3 months when it looked too messy and so I wore a hat in public while waiting for it to dread. Now i just wear a bandana while waiting for it to look better and everyone says itll take a while to grow..I have this 1 really awesome dread though that's been there for over a year and want the others to turn out the same way. I have about 37 dreads..should I split some of them? Will they grow bigger or tighter or stay the same size if I don't separate and will the scalp stop showing on its own?

Below are pics..the 1st and messiest was around 1 month. The others were taken today.

Thanks a lot for your help, any advice is greatly appreciated!
