I Have been freeforming from a fade for a year, my hair isn't even an inch long?

Introduce Yourself

Sorry for such a late reply. But yes my hair is approaching 15 months without being brushed or combed. So it is really matted. As for the pattern in my head, I suspect it may have to do with the fact I had a low-cut fade/caesar with 360 waves when I stopped brushing or combing my hair.

Listen bro when i was growing my first set i was feeling some of the same things you were. Mostly impatience, so i can relate.

Question, is your hair actually dreaded at all? If not, consider picking out the Fro and let some growth set in. I have heard that the longer the hair the easier it can dread, in fact even Bob Marley if you look at pictures didn't start dreading till his hair was rather long. I didn't put down comb pick to let it dread untill i could pull a strand down to my eyebrows. Two-three months later, after washing four times a week with organic shampoos, i had baby dreads.

How did you get that unique pattern in your hair from solely using freeform?

Black folk can have different thickness/coarseness of hair which some people may not realize, but chances are you have the kind of hair that takes to dreading more naturally perhaps then any on the planet. So feel confident that it will happen, just at a time of its own choosing.

I haven't the slightest clue of what it might look like when it gets longer. That's why I want it to grow. I think once they get longer I will seperate them if I can

I also don't think my hair is matting into one big dread. My hairs sections are wave like patterns. In between like 10-20. I also have cylindrical type hairs on my head, some independent but some are part of the wave like patterns.

are you apposed to separating?

what your seeing (i think) is its forming a hair helmet like structure that could potentialy become a unidread or close to it its all matting together into 1 structure

you may find that if u separate into individual dreads u will regain 1/4 inch or so each time and it will grow out not in

right now (i think) its growing into 1 thick matt

u say u can pull it out to several inches

i think separating will help it be close to that long

im kinda guessing however just my impression

I Have been freeforming from a fade for a year, my hair isn't even an inch long?

Introduce Yourself

I started freeforming a year and a month ago from a fade.

The first 4-5 months or so my hair grew, in fact it was longer than it was now but it wasn't matted like it is now.

I started taking biotin 10,000 MCG at this time. So that's 7 months about that i've been taking biotin.

Now I know your hair is supposed to shrink mostly during the first year, but on youtube I see freeformers who started from a fade with inches of hair by a year that actually look like locs.

My hair is very matted but is so short, only like an inch or less. But I can see it started to slowly grow.

If I take a hair and twist it it shoots up to about maybe 2 inches, but I don't like to twist my hair so I always make it go back to being untwisted if I do twist it.

Whether they started freeforming with hair or not, everyone else's hair seems to grow so different from mine.

Now im patient and I plan to keep going but I just want to know if there is anyone like me out there

Also whenever I wash my hair it shrinks so ridiculously. If I don't wash for a couple days I can take a hair and pull it to about my eyebrow but when I wash it it barely goes halfway down my forehead.

I don't know why my hair grows so short, but it sure is annoying to see other freeformers have so much length after a year and twisters etc.

I also hate having to explain myself to people all the time, every time I tell them about the freeform process it seems to go in one ear and out the other.

I regret telling people I was going to "Freeform dreads" I don't even feel like that is the appropriate name for my hair.

Had I known what I known now I would have just told them I was growing my hair without brushing or combing it.

Too many people are under the impression that i'm "trying to get dreads" so for me to sit down all these people and explain to them that i'm not "trying to get dreads" or do anything would be too much of a hassle.

It's kind of like when Bruce Lee named his fighting style Jeet Kun Do and he came to regret it because he really didn't have a fighting style. He had practiced Wing chun kung fu for about 3 years but thought having a rigid style was impractical so he starting taking what he wanted from the style, leaving other things out, and incorporated new things in to better suit his fighting.

But everyone kept calling it Jeet Kun Do when all he was doing was fighting without a style and I can imagine how much it annoyed him.

Anyways I just want my hair to grow, better yet I just want to know how it it'll grow but I don't think anyone will be able to answer me.

From what I observed this is a path that I will have to walk alone and understand through first hand experience.

No one before me has probably experienced this as we all are different and our hair grows differently. Even if we all freeform our hair is not the same. Maybe similarly but different.

I wonder if my hair will grow tall or long...... I don't know I just want another year to go by so I can understand my hair better

Although my hair is short it is very very tight I can't stress this enough. If I twist my hair they are hard to take out, they only come out if I wash them, and some even last through washes it is only until a few days later after washing they will come out or until the next wash.

Why does my hair shrink when I do this?

Introduce Yourself

I run my fingers through it to create space, and by pop out I mean the hair will noticeably be longer than before I massaged my scalp

I'll massage my scalp and my hair will pop out. I will then run my fingers through my hair and it'll shrink almost instantly and get real tight. Why is this?
