Dreadlocks in the U.S. Military

Life Issues Facing Dreads

except it can i have tied them in a tight but for a job interview and i have worn a youths motorcycle helmet over them as well. i can fit goggles and gas masks on

You will have to cut it. With your hair the way it is it will not let a hat, or helment fit the way it is supposed to and they will ask you to cut it or comb it out so you can get a smaller bun. As SE said, dont join, join. If you want to help then join the red cross.

Dreadlocks in the U.S. Military

Life Issues Facing Dreads

so Ive been reading up on regulations for military uniform and hairstyles. So some veterans say yes some say no. I'm really confused as to if i will have to say goodbye to my dreads if i want to serve my country. I was just wondering if anyone knew of had any opinions on this topic.

I found this in the rules:

"Leaders will judge the appropriateness of a particular hairstyle by the appearance of headgear when worn. Soldiers will wear headgear as described in the applicable chapters of this regulation. Headgear will fit snugly and comfortably, without distortion or excessive gaps. Hairstyles that do not allow soldiers to wear the headgear properly, or that interfere with the proper wear of the protective mask or other protective equipment, are prohibited."

Dreads and Diets

Okay so first i should say and let it be known that I'm only vegan for my Health and fitness. I do understand the animals rights and humane way of vegan-ism but this is not that case. So if that's an issue I'm sorry. I was diagnosed with PCOS which is Poly-cystic Ovary syndrome. Exactly what it sounds like. I have Cysts on my ovaries. It's not very painful but if not taken care of it can be fatal. It causes Insulin resistance and increased androgen's (testosterone). So if i were to lose weight problems solved.

my body is gaining weight like crazy. And every single time i try to lose any weight it just wont shed. so, I'm trying to stick with a vegan diet to help lose weight. But I'm having a really hard time. the rest of my very large family are steak and potato eaters. I'm the only one that doesn't want any meat, eggs, or dairy. Also having no money in this family and not being able to get a job aren't helping any. I'm practically living off of Carrots and soy milk or toast and hummus. haha. so maybe if anyone has any ideas. or can relate that would be amazing. :) much thanks for reading this and letting me vent.

Job Interview help!!

Introduce Yourself

some aloe Vera gel and slick it back and behind your ears i think that would look very professional. Somewhere on this site i saw a letter to employers stating that dreadlocks are protected under religious and civil rights.

I love me dreads but I hate getting made fun of in school

General Talk

I have been made fun of my entire life for my weight. I've tried diets pills starvation. they only made it worse. years later i see my doctor and turns out i have PCOS and its super hard for me to lose weight. I'm not alone. Just knowing that I'm not the only person that has struggled and been made fun of by school kids is reassuring. After getting dreads i have been made fun of as the fat girl who has gross hair. i try not to let that affect me because this is who i am. I hope this helps you some. And what SE said is true. you have to take the positive and ignore the negative.

My Trials and Errors.

Introduce Yourself

So as on December 17th i have been dreading again I used TwistNRip to start them off (and to keep sectioned easier). It's been almost two months and they are doing wonderful! I was worried the first few days because i had used a little wax, which is no longer because eewww, haha. After i got all that sticky stuff out i just let them go, but i was using a dreadlock shampoo from Knotty Boy which was another bad decision. That shampoo did NOT clean my dreads nor did they clean my scalp (although it made my hands and arms feel amazing, i kept it only for my body). A month ago I switched to BS/ACV rinses and stopped touching them. That was the best decision i have ever made! They are messy, wild, and out-of-this-world soft and healthy. No more irritations, no more icky feelings, Just good-ol-natural dreadies. I'm soooooo happy with them now!!!
