Cold Weather And Dreads/Scalp Care

Dread Maintenance

Your dreads are awesome, SE...It's pretty cool that you can actually use them as a scarf to keep you warm...Mine are almost to my shoulders at this point, so it will be a while 'til I can do that. I hope they do keep my head warm, though!

Cold Weather And Dreads/Scalp Care

Dread Maintenance

Hello, my dready brothers and sisters! As I sit here at my laptop, the mercury is dropping outside my window. This will be my first winter with actual dreads. I've been dreading for over 16 months, but they didn't truly lock until early spring of this year. Truth is, when the weather was cold last year, that was the closest I came to cutting my babies off. My scalp, my skin and my hair are all extremely sensitive to cold, dry air. I was itchy, cold and miserable, but I didn't give up!

So, with that said, who would like to share their hints, tips, success stories, etc. about any challenges that you have faced during cold weather? Do you do anything extra for maintenance? Do you cover your dreads to protect them from wind/the elements? Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge!

The Power Of Chia Seeds

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Glad to see more people on the chia train! These little wonders have been a part of my diet for years now and I recently added hemp seeds to the mix as well. Chia is great to add to smoothies as someone said, but I used to just chuck a tablespoon of 'em in my mouth and chase it with veggie juice! I like switching up between chia and hemp, because hemp actually tastes like nuts when you eat them.

Thanks to everyone for sharing the recipes!

HELP! How many dreads should I have toget the "best dreads"?

Dread Maintenance

The idea of 'perfect dreads' is kinda...not the point. I (and everyone here probably) understand where you're coming from, but there is really no advice to give on this topic. Dreads are sort of like 'art'...there's no right or wrong way to do them. As long as they are healthy, you are okay. Do what you like with them and enjoy the journey. They will take on a life of their own, and if you just let them be, then you will learn to love them.
