I have many beads in my dreads that i never ever take out. Some have been in my hair for over 4 years (going on 5). I wrap my dreads often with hemp in a criss-cross pattern, I will leave it in for months. I left one in for over a year. I have never had mold and i never blow dry. I have not put in an embroidery thread wrap since my dreads but i used to keep one in my head all the time pre-dread. Those never gave me any problems. I keep planning on putting one in, but it takes a lot longer to do and i am lazy when it comes to my hair. :)

Does wrapping your dreads with hemp or having beads cause mildew?

Dread Accessories

I know there have been discussions like this before but honestly I'm too lazy to go searching all day to find it.

Anyways... I want to decorate my dreads, but do you have to take your hemp wrap or beads out after awhile so they don't cause mildew? Can you leave them in, but you have to blow dry them so your dreads aren't retaining water?

What are the secrets with this?

( Cries out to the heavens) Tell me your ways ole mighty wise dread wrappers!

How old were you when you started your dreads?

Dreadlocks Journey Emotional Support

I started 2-3 months ago I'm 22. I always loved dreads and decided that I need to try it out at least once. I am learning to be patient and they are sometimes more work then regular hair. I am finding out with having dreads you automatically have this connection with other dreadheads. There have been times where people have come up to me just because they have dreads and start talking about them and how I started and whatnot. It's a pretty far out experience and I'm very interested to see how it all turns out.

Start separating? (3 week old dreads) worried their not looking right.

Dread Maintenance

I think they look fine. Relax let them do as they want and just pay attention to the back. If they are starting to try to clump together then separate them. If not, then your good man. Hope this helped a little for ya.

Dreads or No Dreads, that is the question

dready interests

Pros: they are an awesome conversation starter. For me they have actually gave me some few life lessons when I lease expect it. You can still do cool hair designs with dreads and put beads in them make them look far out.

Somethings to think about: I don't find this much of a con but I thought it was when I first started having dreads. Patients dreads are a long journey. Your hair will shrink. Everyone is different, but with my hair I had it mid back and I didn't realize that it would shrink all the way to my shoulders. Some are longer then others.

With all that said dreads are a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it.

Actually no that gets annoying at the end. But Ween and Die Antwood are both really good artists.
