Best Dryer For Dreads

Dread Maintenance

Melony, My hair dryer is about as old as yours (If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it, eh? lol) I do my drying the same way you are describing with the setting on Cool on my dryer. I just feel like there has to be an alternative to it. Not to mention I'm sick right now, so I'm being a definite baby about the whole thing HAHA!

SE, that's not really an option for me as it does take my locs a long time to dry and they are still really short and not really very thick (my hair is thick, but my locs are not too big). I posted this yesterday around this time after washing my hair and today they are just finally dry at this point. I don't want to have to point a high heat dryer at my head at all, that's why I'm looking for an alternative for something with low heat and airflow that will work.

Marcellus, I'm really not sure if a dehumidifier would work either. If you have one on hand, try it and let us know how it works, if you need to buy one, I wouldn't bother. I would think since it's a dry heat coming from the furnace (if you're using a furnace) in winter that our dreads would dry faster. I live right next to Lake Superior in Michigan so in summer it is high humidity here and they dry pretty fast at that time. I guess best case scenario for that would be a wood stove. When I lived using one of those, it was hot dry heat all winter. My locs aren't even shoulder lengths at this point, I can't imagine how hard they will be to dry at your length lol

Best Dryer For Dreads

Dread Maintenance

It's that time of year again for me that when I wash my dreads, it takes longer and longer to just let them dry and I hate going to sleep with a wet head. First, it makes me cold all night. Second, I'm afraid that mold will eventually set in because of how long my locs stay wet.

So, I was wondering if anyone uses a soft dryer cap, one of those hard sit under things, or what exactly they use and what works best for them. I am open to all suggestions at this point as just pointing a hair dryer at my head for over an hour doesn't really seem to be doing the trick, either LOL

Thanks!

Tia

I want dreads but I dont

General Talk

You may just not be ready for the dread journey at this time. I do agree with SE that once you've got the want to dread, you don't really lose it until you follow through with it.

As for the itch and dandruff, yes there are fixes for that. Search around the site, you'll see a ton of advise for it.

Now, onto missing your soft hair, look over all of the pictures on the site... People have hundreds of different ways they have decided to dread their hair. From just having one or two "trial" dreads, to half a head, to leaving just your bangs free.

Facing fears and a spiritual journey

Introduce Yourself

Welcome :) First and foremost... relax. Neglect method is about patience, really. Oh and separating... Don't forget to separate as you go. You'll learn along the way exactly what's good for you and your locs.

I use hair ties and headbands on a daily basis, but for dressy occasions do what makes you feel good. You'll know if something you're using/doing is hindering your locs from forming. I liked to use bandanas in the beginning so my babies could be loose underneath and form as they liked.

I hope you enjoy your journey and update us frequently!

Lockin Up Shampoo.

Dread Products

If you are hard up for cash, what kind of shampoo do you have right now? If it doesn't have too many conditioners in it, it would be fine to use for now. I've been knotty for a year and I've been using Tresemme Deep Cleansing Shampoo (not sure what kind ya'll have in Australia)the whole time and it works great for me. Because it's sudsy, you just have to make sure that you rinse it out really well. I squeeze my babies out like a sponge until there's no more suds (you get a feel for it). I do add some tea tree oil into my shampoo and when I get the money, I'll be getting a couple other EOs to add in as well. Don't go broke over your hair, the dreads will happen one way or another ;)

Washed dreads and oh no!

Help! Save My Dreads

No need to panic... Your babies are only a couple months old, let them be and they will do what they were meant to do. As of late, mine are in the blunting stage (which I do not prefer, but my locs seem to love it). It wasn't until recently that the back of my head did anything. I'm at almost 10 months and I still have a lot of loose hair back there, but I have some pretty kick ass babies back there forming all on their own, too.

Need Style Ideas For Very Short Dreads

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

Thanks so much, ladies! I love the ideas! We've been having bad storms here and the power/internet hasn't been very reliable. I think I am going to go with some type of hair covering. I have a few that I madebut they just aren't for going to a nice party like this. I guess I'll be picking up some new yarn tomorrow to make something a bit fancier :)

Need Style Ideas For Very Short Dreads

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

I love these styles, but my hair didn't smooth down that much when I brushed and styled it LOL It's the one night a year I have to dress my personality down as the bosses are very conservative/judgemental and the hubs will not hear the end of it from them about family keeping up appearances and it will possibly make his job harder, which I do not want.

Need Style Ideas For Very Short Dreads

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

Hi all :)
I have a holiday party for the hubs work in a few weeks and I'm in need of help for these shorty dreads to be tamed for the night. I'lluse ahead wrap if all else fails, but I'd like to do something with them other than throwing them in a head wrap or tam.

Any pics or ideas would be great! Thanks!
