Grateful For Soaring Eagle and This Wonderful Forum

dreadlockssite appreciation

6 years ago, my husband mentioned that I would look great with dreadlocks. This planted the seed of me researching locks and different methods of installation. I was on the path of ordering a "dread kit" complete with a comb to back comb and the horrid wax. I then found this site and all of the wonderful insight provided by Soaring Eagle. 6 years ago in March, I put down my hair brush and began my lock journey chocked full of information from Soaring Eagle and the wonderful people of this site. So this post is mostly to show my gratitude to you, Soaring Eagle. I now have the most beautiful 6 year old set of natural locks and I wouldn't be here without SE and this wonderful forum. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!

section sizes

General Questions

I fully understand that one inch is the magic dread size number, not to over 2 inches ever, and that 1cm or less is at risk of breaking off. A lot of my sections are really skinny horizontally (under 1cm) and really long vertically (1in or 1.5in+). The sections don't seem to have too much hair in them but was wondering if they should be smaller than an inch still?

crazy roots at the nape of my neck

General Questions

I've started to form some nice baby dreads at the nape of my neck and I have to seperate them often. Since I've started seperating, I have a huge mess of hair at the roots. I feel like this is normal and to be expected, but still nervous about it. Should it be seperated closer to the scalp?

how beneficial is seasalt spray for forming dreads?

General Questions

I've restarted natural dreads about 3 weeks ago. Things are knotting up fairly quick. I was wondering if a sea salt spray is advised for such young dreads and if it really makes a difference?

separation

General Questions

Yes I watched your videos, which are very helpful. Its just hard for me to get an understanding when my hair is still so loose. But knowing that I should go root to tip is so helpful

separation

General Questions

Does the sound of breaking hair make you shudder? I haven't had to do anything like that yet. seems like it would make me feel like nails on a chalk board haha

separation

General Questions

with research, I have found mixed answers with separating locks. Some desperate from rot to tip and others tip to root. I know that the dread doesnt need to be separated all the way to the scalp.

5 days of unbrushed hair

General Questions

How soon after not brushing should I start separating? I already have little clusters of knots

Haha I'll do the best I can to resist the urge to "do something" to my locks. I'm excited to see the different stages of my dreadies
