Nuuuu they aren't felted! You taught me better than that hahaha! I was thinking of actually making a video of how I put them in because its kind of difficult to explain how I do it, but I'll do my best.

Basically, when I make them I create a loop into one of the ends of the wool dreads, about big enough to fig your thumb into. And then I take a rubber band and attach it right below the loop of the wool dread. So the idea is to create a sort of slipknot effect. They are as harmless as a bead, probably even less because all that is wrapped around the dread is the wool loop, not the band itself. They can come right out, I've changed colors several times. :P

So its been two years since I decided I wanted dreads. I'm very happy with them, how they've turned out so far. The only annoyance I have had is the layers that were cut into my hair before my decision to dread make it very hard to pull up out of my face, as the top half of my hair is still pretty short. I have had so much fun decorating them with beads, thread, and rings. And recently I have even made myself a bunch of wool dreads to add to my hair for color, as I'm too chicken to actually dye them! Plus, you can make many colors and interchange them whenever you want, or leave them in for months. They are my new favorite hair accessory! So here I am at 2years. Next update will probably be in another year, because the progress has slowed down so much! If you want to check out my timeline, I have it on my page. Happy holidays! <3

If it was mold or mildew you would definitely be able to smell it. I would guess that it's most likely residue. Maybe try doing a few bs/acv washes and see if it helps?

Dread Maintenance

To be honest, I truly think it differs depending on the person. For me personally, my hair blew up with knots the same time I started having to wear my hair up for work (around the 11month mark). My hair always got really tangled while it was up anyway, for some reason. I didn't worry about the tightness or anything either, I just pulled up as tight as it needed to be to stay in place and even used lots of hair clips to tame fly away loops on the side of my head.

So much breakage :(

Help! Save My Dreads

Is there any chance that could be dandruff stuck in your dreads? Have you tried soaking them in the bathtub and just squeezing them over and over again under the water to see if you can get any of it out? I would soak them in baking soda too...

I have a job interview, and I have no idea what to do with this.

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

I just wanted to post this, I found it a couple of months ago when I was job searching, and although I haven't actually tried it, It looks VERY nice. Not sure if it would work as well with shorter hair but it'd be worth looking into if you think it would help.

I didn't see it necessary to hide my dreads after a couple of interviews without anyone saying a word about my hair. I work in food service now and I just have it pulled up in a ponytail (Which i know you said they are too short to do yet) But another way to "tie" them up would be to pull up half if you can with a hairband, the top half maybe? But for the record, your baby dreads look gorgeous. :D

Dread Maintenance

When you try to split it be sure to take only one hair at a time, feel around the dread (where it only starts to connect together) near your scalp and pull one hair at a time upwards, out of the knot. It takes a long, long time but it can save you from having to cut all those hairs. I hope that makes sense. o_o I have split a big one before this way about seven months in and it was very mature.

Does Baking Soda actually damages hair?

I have been dreading for over a year and seven months and I've used baking soda throughout the entire process. I wash about twice a week. The things I love most about baking soda is that it leaves your hair SO clean feeling. I wash afterwards with an apple cider vinegar rinse to help condition. And if I'm in an absolute hurry to get out of the shower, I will wash with Vicki's Lockin' Up Shampoo from dreadlockshampoo.com. This shampoo is great and smells amazing but I just don't get that amazingly clean feeling afterwards like I do with the baking soda.

As for the effect it has had on my hair, I noticed that it does leave your hair brittle at times, which is why its so important to condition with the acv. When I separate it can be pretty easy to accidentally snap the hairs that are caught between two dreads. But my dreads themselves are strong and healthy, I have no weak spots or signs like they are being damaged otherwise.
