It's good that you realize that you can't skip the messy stage.Crocheting your hair did a lot of damage. But since it was only done once to start them, it's not so bad. It's when crocheting is done over and over again as maintenance that it can completely destroy locks.Since you are seeing them be super messy at 10 months, it shows how crocheting really set you back. Even one time with a crochet needle can set your back up to 6 months. That messy stage is essential. All of those loose hairs actually snag the new growth and tangle and knot them into your locks. It does go away in time, but the roots and hairs by your scalp will always be loose and a bit messy. This is a sign of healthy locks. Tight roots, where you can see scalp in between the sections, is a sure sign of balding.Just wash your hair 2-3 times a week with a residue free shampoo, and you'll be set. You can spray your hair or soak it in a sea salt solution before you wash it. That will encourage faster knotting. Don't leave the sea salt in your hair longer than 2 hours, though. This also applies to if you go to the beach

Welcome. What did they do to you hair to begin with? It's great that you aren't messing with them now, but we may be able to help spot any problems that were caused early on?
