Namaste. I don't want to bust the good vides, but even that little wax will have negative effects. It can prevent your locks from progressing like you'd want them too. Because it's a hydrocarbon, too, it doesn't wash out in normal water and soap. Hydrocarbons need a detergent to wash them out.
I can help you with getting the wax out. It's a rough process, but will be well worth it. if you need them to look neat for work, there are better ways. Aloe, the gel from dreadlockshampoo.com (it's 100% water soluble and washes out in plain water. It even starts to degrade on its own in 2 days).
Have you considered wearing a plain black tam to work? It'll completely cover your head, give your hair room to move, and looks professional

Welcome. Did they use wax or anything else besides back combing? That method isn't that bad. It's not as gentle as TnR. But it isn't the worst thing you could do
