Haha! I love the older generation!I get people that ask me "How often do you do your hair like this?...they'll ask, "how long does it take?" I finally figured out that most of these questions are from people that are thinking it's a "daily hairstyle"! They're not understanding that this is my hair now...I have dread locks! I didn't wake up this morning and "style" my hair like this! The best part is the look on their face when they find out! Some people get interested, and other's get this ever so slight look of disgust. I can't help but love it.The best is my grandma. She'll be 94 on Dec. 9th. She's in the late stages of Alzheimer's. I'm one of her care takers. She doesn't know who anybody is ever, even right after you tell her. She was always this very proper, religious, conservative....and I hate to say it....but judgmental, woman. Amazing and smart and beautiful, but slightly closed minded. She'd tell ya EXACTLY what she thought. Ie: too fat, too skinny, not wearing enough clothes, etc etc... So now, I'm thinking she's got a slightly different view on life! She'll grab ahold of one of my locks with this very confused look on her face...then she'll pat it down and say "your hair is soooo beautiful!" She's great...I'll tell her that not all people like my hair...she says "you can do whatever the hell you wanna do!" I love my grandma!Anybody relate? Any fun stories?

I just lost my Grandma one week ago, Nov.8th would have been her 89th birthday. We were always really close because she raised me...as well as 16 children!!!! She had a great, unvarnished way of looking at life and always made me feel loved. Unfortunately, she never got to see my dreads because she lived far away. The last time we got to talk she said," I'd give anything to see you" and I told her I looked a bit crazy (without going into any real description). She just said, "You're always beautiful and I love you"...that was all I needed to hear! I know it may sound crazy...but, I think she would have loved my dreads...she was just accepting that way.

@ Panterra: I'm so sorry for your loss. What a wonderful grandma! Thank you for sharing...she can see your dreads now hon! :D...and O'Callaghan...yes! She is a pistol! Super fun! I'm so grateful I get to have this time with her as she's so close to that other side of the veil and her views are quite different and change everyday. I get to build an amazing relationship with her, even tho' she doesn't know who I am! :D
