3 months in and looking crazy!

Hello all. I am Danielle. I am new here, so I wanted to introduce myself and explain a little about what my crazy hair is doing these days. I am all-ears for any advice.

I have admired dreads for years. I finally got brave enough to try to do it on my own hair. I am going into my 4th month of dreads (twist and rip method). Most of my dreads are looping on themselves now. The last 4- 6 inches of most of my dreads keep falling out. My roots are trying to dread together, so I tried putting some bands in to help, but I am unsure if it is helping in the longrun. Also, most of my underneath hair has undreaded itself. I have super silky Caucasian hair and I am just wondering these are common issues with my hair type?

my hair fully undreaded in the front the first week i backcombed so i left it alone it took almost a year before it started knotting. most peoples hair knots quicker im just a rare case =/

1 don't use bands ever just separate often

2 what are you washing with?

3 this is completely normal for 3-4 months in ..just wait it out

but what you wash with and how you dry does matter alot

I will stop using bands. 

I wash with Burt's Bees shampoo and towel/air dry. 

not the best shampoo at all and don't towel dry your only rubbing away knots

I will change shampoos. I felt like this shampoo might be making my hair a little more silky. 

Why is towel drying not preferable?

well 1 day you  towel dry it might make some knots.. actually most times it might..but then for no apparent reason at all 1 day you can completely undo 3 months progress!

plus its a great way to get lint stuck in hem

Should I wash with soda and apple cider vinegar until I get my new shampoo?

i wouldn't its too harsh and she ships very fast if your in usa and you order it tonight, it will ship tomorrow and you should have it by Tuesday..maybe wed ..

sux its a weekend that will delay it slightly
