you would probably have problems getting tnr or backcombing to stay that short but you can start neglecting/natural at any length, you might get some knots at this length or it may not knot until it grows a bit. or you can wash as if you had dreads & let them section naturally &/or grow some more & then use a starter method at that point if you like.
Like Ixchel said. I'd recommend just starting growing natural locks. Wash like you have locks now, and let them section themselves. As they grow, you will see them start to section themselves. Separate the sections if they start to grow together. If, in a few months, when they are longer, you want to use a starter method, you will already have sections defined to use
condsidering that they tend to loosen up to 3 inches loose at the roots 3 at the tips till many months in that leaves no room for knots tnr or backcomb for that reason need 5 inches to keep any knots at all at 6 it dreads itself
