Day of the Dread feat. Sensi

Hey Hey!!

Sensi here, just saying hello to the community. My dreads were born about 2 days ago and I'm looking for tips on how to maintain and keep my fine straight hair together.

Just came from DHHQ via looking for a forum. Funny they don't have one... hmm seems after reading this site for an hour or so seems like it's fairly obvious as to why not.

I am the victim of a (only?) $60 bill, purchasing the Supa Dupa Dread Kit. I have to say.. I see all the points about wax and am inclined to agree just based on science alone. I do however love the Peppa stuff. It really helps get the oils off my fingers so I can roll my locs. I have always been one to play with my hair so palm rolling is just gonna happen. I'd rather do it with non-oily fingers. I may be wrong. I've been wrong so far soo.. wouldn't be a surprise.

Been browsing the site, and I love the responses. Seems like you guys don't mind posting/responding to us newbs and our in-attention to forum etiquette. And I thank you for that. You have no idea how nice it is to come to a site that offers help no matter if you asked the question i the wrong spot or not. So with that being said.... I have a couple questions myself.

Ok... so my dreads are new and are according to DHHQ. Which means I have rubber bands at the ends and tips. Rubber on the base and elastic at the tip. The have also gone through the initial waxing process.. I know shame shame right. I think I can get it out tho.. I've always had the kind of hair that wouldn't hold a product if it was paid to. At this moment (the dreads were started April 5th and completed April 7th at 6am. We used the backcombing process. It was also sectioned beforehand. So at this moment in time, I have Sideshow Bob hair as I have a dreaded mowhawk.

Now to my question(s).

Should I take the 'bands out? Both tip and root bands?

Now that they are finished, when can I do my first wash? Finish date was April 7th.

After I complete my first wash, what is suggested to put my dreads back together?

and that's about it... I suppose if I have any more questions I'll do some searching and find the right discussion for it. Till then, please excuse my haste. My dreads are very important to me and it's a little thick trying to read all the articles/opinions/discussion on them.

Thanks!! I'm sooooo glad I found this site. The part that really turns me on about it, is how you guys aren't trying to sell me crap (except of course some plain ol' swag) as a get dreaded quick scheme. I love the adverts as well because your stance on non commercial dreads makes me think your sponsors are as legit as you are.

Do take the rubber bands out. They may hold the dreads together, keep them in their sections, but there's no point. Keeping them in risks them eventually being stuck there, and also it just restricts the hair's ability to move about and dread. Take them all out, and if they come out of their sections, don't worry. You don't need clearly-defined sections anyway, separating dreads that are joining will take care of that.

You can wash when you feel like it. Most people use baking soda and apple cider vinegar, and some essential oils, and that's great for new dreads cos you just rinse it, you don't have to rub your scalp and undo any progress. Also, your backcombed hair may come undone or loose...it's completely normal. Don't rebackcomb it or do anything to put it back together again. In my opinion, backcombing doesn't truly do much but give the hair sections...maybe create a couple of knots. But anyway, yeah, if it comes loose, leave it as it is and let it dread. If you backcomb again after it keeps coming loose, you'll never stop, and your hair will never dread.

Also, palm rolling is pretty useless. Not harmful if you don't do it frequently and forcefully, but not particularly worthy of effort either. As for the wax...don't assume your hair will get it out. It might, but...it is wax, afterall. Go to the page about wax removal methods and try those a few times, just to be on the safe side. The more wax you get out, the quicker your hair will dread.

Anyway, glad you found the site, welcome :) feel free to ask any more questions you have. Happy dreading!

take out the bands!

remove the wax asap

wash now wash whenever you want to wash just not every day

adfter you wash yuou dont got to "put them back in" just leave em alone

dont bother palm roolling dont use lock peppa unless u like flakes in your dreads

lock peppa is a cat ear hair remover..repackaged just like the shampoo they sell is for hunters not dreads (and causes dandruff psoriasis ansd..cancer)

palm rolling literaly

i would actualy start over cause wax is that hard to remove if your under as month in its just easier to start iover

otherwise u can sopend a lot of time removing wax and never be sure its all gone

tho the new wax removers from www.dradlockshampoo.com do work wonders
