I'm Confused?

Today was a very sad and long day for me. After having my dreads for a full month I was forced to comb them out because of a lead role that I got in the play Proof. So in the process of taking out my dreads i noticed that my hair was ungodly oily and dirty. The comb i was using had gunk built up in the teeth and it was rather gross. So now i'm wondering what went wrong while i was washing them any suggestions?

I used the baking soda solution with a prerinse of sea salt water.

It could be that you're having hard water in your area

no i didn't do any acv because my hair is naturally pretty oily on its own, and we do have pretty bad hard water where we live. :( well i've decided that the next time i do this i'm going to go completely natural instead of twist and rip because i noticed that even though i thought my ends weren't dreaded they actually were and they had some curl too them as well! so my theory is if i do all natural my dreads may actually come out with a bit of a curl in them! i'm even more excited to start them now :)
