Hey all my name is jon. I have been searching in these forums since yesterday. I am amazed at how much love and guidance this community is offering. Thank all you folks for contributing. I have ben letting my hair dread for about three weeks now. I have not used any products but I was convinced by a friend with locks to back comb. I have naturally curly hair that forms in sections so I just teased them some by back combing. I noticed the spots i neglected are dreading faster and now that I've read these forums I'm going to forget that completely. Is there anything I can do to help what damage I may have caused by combing or should I just leave it alone altogether. I also use baking soda and herb mixture to wash my head once a week. Any suggestions or comments are very welcome. Thank you.

welcome no once the cuticles are damaged nothing can help em theres products that glue em down to make em seenm=m healthier but its just an illusion
and theyre not recomended
the damage isnt a dread killer..it has some effects like makimg chemical or other damage easier
the hair may soak up more moisture chems may seep into he inner layeres easier
but sounds like u didnt hack away at em so its probly not bad at all and lil minor damage wont matter much
just let em go natural from here on they;ll be fine
and fewe years from now only the last couple inches will have been affected at all anyways

Some of my dreads were started by backcombing them. They are just as healthy as my TnR dreads and my neglect dreads. You could not tell which are which on my head. Back combing is not as damaging if it is done gently. Aggressively doing anything to your hair can cause damage. Just leave it alone now. The important thing now is ....how you take care of them. Let your hair do what it wants now. It will be fine.
