yeah I guess it would look weird, I wanted to keep it semi groomed while I let it grow cause I tried growing my hair out a couple of years ago and ended up cutting it cause it started looking really ugly...I guess I just gotta get past that weird/awkward stage when its growing out...I want my dreads to look just like this he said he backcombed it.....

doesnt matter how u want them to look they wont liook like that they will look like yours and they should look like yours not his u cannyone elses they have a mind of theyre own
just let them dread and id do twist and rip not backcomb
if you insist on making dreads instead of alowing them to dread

If I go for natural dreads should I wait till I have longer hair to stop combing and such or start now?? Right now my hair is short only like 2 inches long if that.
its up to u its rcomended 6 inches but some ppl start from bald most dont dread till 6 inches but some dread at 2 its all a matter of choice i started at 2 and it dreaded at 2 in 2 weeks flat..not typical tho(well no the back was 3..maybe 4 and dreaded 1st) the top i guess dreaded at 3ish r so
