Residue in my locks

I've been freeforming for about 6 months & throughout my entire journey I've had a problem. I have white residue in my hair as a result of washing it. At first I used Kirks Castille soap until I started seeing the residue at the bottom of my hair. I switched to african black soap hoping to fix this problem & I did, but the reside just started appearing at the tip of my dreads instead of the root. Any tips on how I can get rid of this problem & find a way to wash my hair with getting residue?
