That's the truth. It really just depends on how fast they take to knot. Some will knot faster than others, and as they knot, they shrink. Some can shrink up to 1/3 of their original length.
I've got one on each side of my head that are almost 5 inches longer than the rest of them. They'll never be the same length unless you trim them to be. But trimming them gets rid of those wispy ends. And you really want those

I hear you. My first set came while I still had my side shaved for my mohawk. It was a little pain in the ass to keep up the shaving.
Good luck with the patience. I couldn't imagine what it's like to have my hair that short again
